Massive fire engulfs Bhallesa forest

DODA, Jan 21: A massive fire has engulfed a large portion of Bhallesa forest comprising of pine trees in Gandoh Sub Division, today.
As per Range Officer Sameer Rishu, a fire broke out in Batra village and in compartment number 84 in Bhallesa forest of Bhaderwah Forest Division and has destroyed a large number of pine trees.
The pine forest is vulnerable to fire in this ongoing season, either due to the sudden rise in temperature or when some grazers deliberately throw cigarette butts on the dry grass, he stated.
He added that a team of Forest Department with the help of local people is trying to douse the flames.
“We are trying our best to control the fire and have so far succeeded in stopping it from spreading to the adjoining areas”, Range Officer informed.
