Massive anti-militancy ops continue across Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 11: Security forces while continuing their anti-militancy operations today once again carried out cordon and search operations in over a dozen villages and towns across Kashmir but all of them concluded peacefully.
Security forces launched an early morning cordon and search operations in twin districts of Pulwama and Shopian of south Kashmir. Sources said hundreds of police, Army and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel cordoned off various villages of the twin districts including Bongam Kellar, Chakoora Bamno, Qasbayar, Kanigam, Maspuna, Aglar Kandi and adjacent villages and launched searches.

Security forces conducted door-to-door searches and also frisked orchards. The villages remained under tight cordon for several hours but there was no incident of stone-pelting from locals. The search operation that was launched in early hours was then called off by noon in both Shopian and Pulwama districts as there was no contact with any militant. Security forces also carried out similar search operations in Kulgam and Anantnag districts where militants carried out two attacks yesterday.
Sources said that the security forces cordoned off Laram village of Qazigund and Rampura in Kulgam district and carried out searches which ended peacefully. The cordon and search operation was also carried out at Maliknag in Anantnag district but it also concluded peacefully. The security forces have stepped up anti-militancy operations in Anantnag after a local youngster identified as Majid joined militant ranks few days ago. Two militant attacks on police have already taken place since Thursday this week in Main Town of Anantnag district.
Late this evening, a search operation was also carried out at Sugan village of Shopian district. Meanwhile, the anti-militancy operations were carried out in North Kashmir districts. A police official said today early morning, a cordon and search operation was launched in Qazi Hamam Mohalla of old town in Baramulla district by police and Army’s 46 Rashtriya Rifles. During the operation, several houses were frisked but no suspect was arrested. The cordon and search operation was also carried out at Budnumbal village of border Kupwara district which concluded peacefully.
Meanwhile, SSP Baramulla, Imtiyaz Hussain said that during today’s search operation in Qazi Hamam Mohalla of old town Baramulla, a shopkeeper was found dead inside a room. “While one house inmate namely Tariq Ahmad Badru came out during searches, he also went to inform his brother who was sleeping in his bedroom with his family but he found him dead.
“The deceased namely Bilal Ahmad Badru was shopkeeper by profession. Prima facie it appeared to be a case of murder and it has surfaced that he had been strangled to death during sleep. It was due to presence of police and Army in the area that this case of murder was detected,” he said, adding that police have launched the investigation and few people are being questioned about facts and circumstances of the murder.
“Post-mortem of the body was conducted by team of doctors in District Hospital Baramulla. A case under FIR No 200 /2017 under Section of 302 RPC stands registered in police station Baramulla and further investigation into the case is going on,” the SSP added.
