Masood Azhar not under ”arrest” but ”protective custody”: Pak Minister

ISLAMABAD : A Pakistan Minister has confirmed that Maulana Masood Azhar, suspected mastermind of the Pathankot terror attack, was under protective custody but not under arrest.
According to English daily Dawn, Punjab province Law Minister Rana Sanaullah told the newspaper that the counter-terrorism department of the Government had taken the chief of the banned Jaish-e-Mohammad under ”protective custody”.
When asked if his custody could be termed as arrest, the Minister said the banned JeM chief could be arrested if his involvement in the Pathankot terror attack was proved beyond doubt. Yesterday, the Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Kazi Khalilullah had said that he was not aware of any arrest of Masood Azahr.
India has made it clear to Pakistan that any dialogue between the two countries could take place only if Pakistan took action on the evidence provided to it on the Pathankot attack. However, yesterday, the Ministry of External Affairs, while announcing rescheduling of the Foreign Secretary talks had said that it welcomed the action taken by Islamabad so far in connection with the Pathakot attack.
