Marwah residents continue protest, hunger strike, 1 hospitalized

KISHTWAR, Apr 22: The residents of Marwah continued their protest and hunger strike against construction of a hydro electric project in their area.
A large number of people from Marwah assembled at their native village and continued their protest and hunger strike.
Amid slogans, the protesters urged Chief Minister to drop the plan of constructing Burser Hydro Electric Project as same is against their will and consent.
During hunger strike, the condition of a protester namely Mohammad Ramzan, son of Habib Ullah of Marwah deteriorated and was airlifted to District Hospital Kishtwar.
While talking to media persons, the protesters said that they are protesting since long against the construction of hydro electric project, but till today no action has been taken by the Government viz District Administration.
“Due to non serious attitude of the Government towards demonstration, the situation is worsening day by day”, they said and flayed the concerned politicians and authorities for not taking up the issue on the proper platform.
They have alleged that though during public hearing of said project, locals had raised their voice and objected proposal of the project but ignoring the concern of locals, NHPC is moving ahead with their plan.
“We approached High Court and if required, we will also approach Supreme Court to seek justice”, they asserted.
Meanwhile, while talking to media persons at District Hospital Kishtwar, Mohammad Ramzan said that they will not allow the construction of the hydro electric project at any construct in Marwah.
