Maruti Suzuki NPL Cricket Tourney from today

NAGROTA Feb 6: In yet another innovative initiative of MLA Devender Singh Rana to bring Nagrota in focus and to provide the local youth a massive platform to showcase their talent, Bajalata, a scenic locale of the constituency, is all set to host a mega knock-out cricket tournament, spanning over a month.
Former Chief Minister and Working President National Conference, Omar Abdullah will formally declare open the first Maruti Suzuki Nagrota Premier Cricket League Tournament at Bajalta tomorrow at 12. 30 pm.
In all, 65 teams of 43 Panchayats of the Nagrota Assembly Constituency will be participating in the knock-out tournament, which is expected to be witnessed by large number of locals as also the cricket lovers from Jammu and elsewhere.
“This is my humble effort to give fillip to various activities in the constituency, which has huge potential in various spheres like tourism and sports”, Mr Devender Singh Rana said, adding that being in close periphery of the winter capital, the constituency can be developed as a multifaceted hub for various lucrative activities.
He described the holding of tournament as a step to identify talent of youth, sharpen them and to provide them opportunities to perform, first at a limited scale and then in various events at the State and  national levels. “Apart from channelizing the energies of youth in proper direction, the sports activities will forge camamaradie between various segments of the society”, he said adding that such efforts will give economic fillip to the people of the area as well.
As part of its social responsibility, Maruti Suzuki is providing all the incentives to the budding cricketers to perform and make their mark in the field of cricket.
“Our effort will be to pick up the talented ones and shape them well so that they can participate in big events”, a spokesperson of the Maruti Suzuki said. He expressed satisfaction about the available talent, saying the practice matches have been quite encouraging.
It is pertinent to mention here that in December last, Mr Rana had organised an Off Track Race in the rugged terrain of Bajalta in which 140 racers had participated.
The event had attracted thousands of people from Jammu and the Nagrota Constituency, who witnessed the sensational competition involving the vehicles of various modes like 4×4,  2×2 and motorcycles.
