JAMMU, Dec 16: The 44th Anniversary of ‘Vijay Diwas was celebrated with great enthusiasm at various battalions of the Army in whole of the State with paying floral tributes to the martyrs.
The day was celebrated with traditional enthusiasm at HQ Northern command today. A large number of civil dignitaries, ex-servicemen and service personnel participated in the celebrations and paid homage to the martyrs who laid down their lives in Indo-Pak war of 1971.
Every year 16 December is celebrated as ‘Vijay Diwas’ to commemorate India’s historic victory over Pakistan. The swift and professionally planned operations executed by the Indian Armed Forces led to one of the greatest military victories recorded in the annals of World history.
The Northern Command commemorated the occasion with a wreath laying ceremony at Dhurva Shahid Smarak by Lt Gen NPS Hira, Officiating Army Commander. He highlighted the role of the Indian Armed forces in achieving major military victories in the 1971 war. While remembering the martyrs, all ranks of the Northern Command reaffirmed steadfast and lifelong commitment to the martyr’s families.
The Chinar Corps celebrated the 44th Anniversary of the Indian victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War in true military tradition by remembering the heroes and martyrs of the War. A brief but solemn ceremony was organized in Badami Bagh Cantonment, for the serving soldiers and ex-servicemen. The event was attended by a large number of Army and civil persons. Lt Gen Satish Dua, GOC Chinar Corps, paid homage to the martyrs by laying a wreath at the War Memorial in the Badami Bagh Cantonment. GOC, Chinar Corps, while speaking on the occasion recounted the sacrifices and the tremendous achievements of the Chinar Corps during the conflict.
Rashtriya Rifles Force Headquarters based at Reasi celebrated `Vijay Diwas’ with great fervor and gusto. In a solemn ceremony, the officiating General Officer Commanding (GOC) paid homage to martyrs by laying a wreath at the War Memorial. A two-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to all the brave soldiers who have made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation. On the occasion, the officiating GOC exhorted upon all ranks to rededicate them in the service of the nation and complimented the troops for their outstanding performance in conduct of people friendly operations as well as contributing towards brotherhood and harmony.
On the occasion of ‘Vijay Diwas’, Rashtriya Rifles located at Bhadarwah under the aegis of Counter Insurgency Force (Delta) organized ‘Laying of Wreath’ on the statue of brave soldier Naib Subedar Chuni Lal, Ashok Chakra (Posthumous), Vir Chakra, Sena Medal, at Gatha Park. A number of Ex-servicemen, Veer Naris and local people were also present on the occasion.
At Shardhanjli Sthal Udhampur, Poorav Sainik Seva Parishad and Ex-servicemen Kalayankari Sangathan Udhampur today organized a function to celebrate ‘Vijay Diwas’. A large number of civil dignitaries, ex-servicemen and service personnel participated in the celebrations and paid homage to the martyrs, who laid down their lives in various wars. Minister of State for Finance and Information Technology, Pawan Kumar Gupta, and District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, were also present and paid floral tributes to the martyrs.
