POONCH, Oct 30: A large number of people from Poonch area besides senior officers in the District Police today bid a tearful adieu to a policeman who was martyred during an encounter with militants in Kashmir, at his home town in Poonch  today.

The Police Constable, Zahir Abbas was killed during gun-battle in Mir Mohalla area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Sunday. He is survived by his wife, two minor sons and a daughter, who is the youngest among the siblings.
District Development Commissioner, Poonch  Tariq Ahmad Zargar and Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajiv Pandey laid wreaths on the mortal remains of the martyr jawan and participated in the funeral prayers in Abbas’s village Kallar Mohra in Mendhar.
Hundreds of people paid tributes to the slain policeman soon after his body reached his home around noon. His body was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in the village, official sources said.
