JAMMU: The residents of Ward no. 29 are facing inadequate water supply and sanitation problem in the area which is the main issue that required immediate attention.
In an interaction with Corporator Ward no 29, Surinder Singh Choudhary, BJP Corporator stated that the resident of this Ward are mainly facing issues like sanitation and drainage. As most part of this Ward comes under the low line area due to which during Monsoon water from drains and gutter enter their premises. Drains and nallahs in the area are still uncovered, he added.
Drainage system is not the only issue of this area, water which is one of the essential commodity, is also on issue.
Singh added while the other Wards get regular supply of water by the pipes constructed by ERA, the negligence of the authorities towards Ward has led to irregular water supply. He also highlighted the shortage of employees of the Municipal department, working in their area.
As Ward No. 29 comprised a large area starting lane no 1 to 12 of Shakti Nagar, Rajpura upto tube well and some parts of area near AG Office including some portion of lower Gura Bakshi Nagar near BSNL Billing Counter, still lot of ground work has to be done to provide better living facilities to the residents, Choudhary stressed.
Talking about sanitation, Choudhary said that cleanliness plays pivotal role for healthy life. If one’s environment is not clean it is a call to a number of diseases. He also referred to Swachta Bharat Abhiyaan and said that everyone should promote and follow it strictly.
Singh has been working as a newspaper hawker since 1990. He said that “newspapers has become my strength during election’s process”. Being a hawker, I went door to door every morning which help me to building a rapport with the residents. This is the reason they choose me as their representative,” he said.
He won by 26 votes in Urban Local Election. He stood up for elections for the first time. He was associated with RSS during his student life and then joined hands with BJP.
To ascertain the temper and aspirations of the voters of this urban-rural Ward of Jammu, this correspondent conducted an intensive random survey of the cross section of people, comprising the youth and aged, urbanites and rural voters, wide variety of social, political and economic strata of society having different shades of opinion. Irrespective of political affiliations many expressed their keen desire for all-round development and provision of better civic and all other amenities.
A common feeling among numerous electorates is lack of constant mass contact of this Ward with the people in the Ward though admittedly some developments work like upgrading of lanes and drains, provision of civic amenities though chronic problems like shortage of drinking water , irregular power supply still haunt the public.
The issues of discrimination in share of development projects, neglect in the recruitment in services and admissions in technical and professional institutions continue in public perception.
The thrust has to be on massive development of infra-structure focusing on improvement of roads, provide ‘bijali, pani, makaan and basic civic amenities, and also acute problem of traffic, growing drug menace, tackling and a crusade against social evils, economic offences, black-marketing coupled with adulteration.
Concrete plans for faster and all-pervasive development have to be drawn and vigorously implemented, the Corporator stressed.
Raman Sharma, electronics shopkeeper of Shakti Nagar said : “ we are facing acute shortage of power and frequent power cuts besides shortage of drinking water are our serious concern in this area. The conditions of lanes and by-lanes have improved drastically but water choking problems is still serious menace.
Shanti Devi expressed hope that their representative will change the face of Ward no. 27 and also improve civic amenities.
