UDHAMPUR, Mar 26: Continuing their protest against opening of wine shop near Manthal on National Highway in Tikri, locals held a strong protest demonstration and blocked the road for second consecutive day on Saturday.
The protesting people, including men and women, raised slogans against opening of wine shop in Manthal. They vowed to continue the struggle till authorities order immediate closure or shifting of this wine shop to a distant area.
Even as ASP Udhampur, Mohan Lal Kaith as well as Tehsildar Udhampur, Sapna Kotwal reached the spot and sought to pacify the agitating people, the latter refused to disperse. They lamented that despite apprising the authorities about ill effects of wine shop in the area, the concerned officers did not take any action thus forcing them to adopt agitational path.
The protesting women feared that opening of wine shop will have a negative impact on the young generation and spoil the healthy atmosphere of the society. We will not allow the opening of wine shops in this area and the link road of Shri Mata Vaishnoo Devi University road, they added.
