JAMMU, July 25: Prof Manoj Kumar Dhar today took over as new Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University while Prof Talat Ahmad has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Kashmir University.
Prof Manoj Dhar is a Plan Scientist and  has been serving in the Jammu University for the last 25 years while Prof Talat Ahmad is an Earth Scientist and present Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.
Both of them have been appointed Vice-Chancellors for a period of five years.  The appointments were made today by Governor N N Vohra, who is Chancellor of both the universities.
Prof Manoj Dhar took over as the new Vice Chancellor by assuming charge from the outgoing VC Prof R D Sharma, this afternoon.
Born on 17th November 1964, Prof. Manoj Dhar started his career as Lecturer in the Department of Botany, University of Jammu. He has held several major academic and administrative positions at JU, including Director School of Biotechnology, Controller of Examinations, Registrar JU and Advisor to the Vice Chancellor JU.
An academician of international repute, Prof Manoj Dhar has around 25 years of rich professional experience as an educationist, researcher and as administrator. An M Sc, M Phil and Ph D   in Botany from JU, Prof Manoj Dhar specializes in Plant Molecular Biology Genomics.
Till now Professor at School of Biotechnology, JU, Prof Manoj Dhar was elected as Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India in 2017.
Prof Talat Ahmad, who has been appointed new Vice-Chancellor of Kashmir University, shall replace the incumbent Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, whose three-year tenure ended in October 2017.
Prof Talat Ahmad has earlier served as the Vice-Chancellor of Kashmir University from 2012 to 2014. He was given a three-year extension, six months ahead of the completion of his first term, but was soon appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia for next five years.  His term at the Jamia Millia Islamia is ending in the middle of 2019.
