New Delhi, Mar 9: Former prime minister Manmohan Singh today pitched for equitable sharing of “power and development” among all three regions of Jammu and Kashmir to find a lasting solution to the state’s problem.
Singh was speaking at the launch of a book, ‘Karan Singh – Jammu and Kashmir (1949-1967)’, at the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) here.
The first copy of the book was presented by former chief justice T S Thakur to Singh.
“(The problems of) Jammu and Kashmir is a complex subject…There cannot be a lasting solution to the problem of Jammu and Kashmir unless the equitable sharing of power and developments of all the three regions of the state — Kashmir, Ladakh and Jammu –is attended to,” the senior Congress said.
Stating that there was a “lot of unfinished agenda and lot of food for thought”, Singh said he hoped that other scholars would follow the footstep of this book in dealing with the role of Jawaharlal Nehru, Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah and other leaders in influencing the course of events in the state.
He said the book was an “important book on an important subject” and deals with the history of Jammu and Kashmir from 1949 to 1967.
He said it also history of important role played by Karan Singh, the son of the last ruler of the erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir Maharaja Hari Singh, in shaping the events and history of Jammu and Kashmir in its multi-facet aspect.
“Dr Karan Singh played a remarkable role in shaping the course of events of Jammu and Kashmir which is well known to all those who have been dealing or aware of the happenings in the state,” he said.
