Manmohan heads Cong Group on Kashmir

JAMMU, Apr 19: Taking serious view of the deteriorating law and order situation in Kashmir, All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi today constituted a Policy Planning Group (PPG) for the J&K State, which will assess the situation, especially in Kashmir.
A party spokesman said that the Congress has been critical of the Centre as well as the Coalition Government in the J&K State over the handling of the situation in Kashmir during the recent past.
The new Policy Planning Group has been chaired by former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. It includes CWC members -former Home Minister P Chidambaram,  Dr Karan Singh and Ghulam Nabi Azad, besides AICC general secretary  and In-charge J&K Pradesh Congress, Ambika Soni.
The other senior Congress leaders, who are also members of this new Group from Pradesh Congress, are JKPCC president Ghulam Ahmed Mir, CLP leader Nawang Rigzin Jora, former MP Tariq Hameed Karra and PCC senior vice president, Sham Lal Sharma.
The spokesman further said that the Group will study and assess the ground situation in Kashmir and take initiatives for restoration of normalcy there. The State has been facing unrest in Kashmir for quite some time.
