UDHAMPUR, Dec 7: Expressing concern over the poor road connectivity in hilly areas, Ex-MLA and NPP president Balwant Singh Mankotia today called on Chief Engineer, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) SP Manhas and discussed the status of incomplete roads of Jammu region.
He claimed that road started 5 to 10 years back are still incomplete and compensation has not been provided to the land owners who had given their land for the construction of road under PMGSY.
Mankotia added that due to non-completion of roads, people from far flung areas are facing hardship and after spending crores of rupees they still lack better road connectivity.
He said that it’s unfortunate that people who provided land for construction of road have not received compensation as yet after the passage of 5 to 10 years. “When these roads were started, clear guidelines were given for acquisition of land and after release of compensation, construction agency can start work on these roads. But unfortunately neither compensation, nor roads were completed since start of construction work”, he stated.
NPP president highlighted the cases of under construction roads of Bhaderwah and Udhampur constituencies under PMGSY and stresses to provide road connectivity to unconnected areas of Jammu region like Bhala to Gajote, Khaleni to Dugli, Upper Berbhah to Chanti Tatora and Garnaie to Upper Garnaie of Udhampur where construction of roads have been stopped. These incomplete roads need urgent attention for early completion, he said.
Mankotia asked the Chief Engineer to start the work on Mansar to Upper Sorp road as the work on this road was started but stopped at Mansar while sanction was given upto Upper Sorp for construction of the road and also discussed the under construction roads of Udhampur constituency.
Chief Engineer PMGSY assured the NPP president that issue of roads highlighted by him would be addressed as early as possible.
