NEW DELHI, Jan 3: Srinagar, Jan 3:  Militants this evening shot dead a 25-year old man in Sopore area of North Kashmir while an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of militants was arrested by security forces from Pattan area of Baramulla.
Security forces busted a major SIM card racket in North Kashmir and arrested six persons, who are being questioned.
Police said that a 25-year-old man Arif Ahmad Sofi son of Mohammad Maqbool Sofi of Wahipora Unisoo, Handwara in Kupwara district (at present Herwan Bomia, Sopore with maternal home) was shot at around 7:25 pm by militants at point blank range.
Arif was shifted to nearby Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Army and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned off the area soon after the incident and launched searches against the militants responsible for the killing.
In the meantime, police today arrested three persons including an OGW from Pattan area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A joint team of Army’s 29 RR and SOG during a naka at Zangam Bridge in Pattan area and arrested the trio.
The official said that arms and ammunition including a Chinese pistol, one magazine, 4 rounds, one AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 60 rounds were recovered from them.
They identified the trio as Miyser Majid Bhat, OGW, son of Abdul Majid Bhat of Sirwaripora Pattan, Muzafar Ahmad Hurra son of Ghulam Mohd and Bashir Bhat son of Munawar Bhat.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and further investigations were taken up.
Security forces today busted a SIM card racket by arresting six persons in Baramulla district of North Kashmir.
Army’s 46 RR and SOG, based on the inputs raided several parts of Baramulla and arrested six persons who were allegedly running a fake SIM card racket.
The persons include the agents of the cellular companies and a  printing press owner who were found involved in making fake Army rubber stamps and army documents for issuance of the SIM cards.
Over 1000 SIM cards have been issued and subsequently activated over these fake documents. The SIM cards which were activated are mostly of Aircel and Vodaphone companies.
Scores of fake Army rubber stamps, Army documents and six bags carrying hundreds of SIM cards have been seized besides the devices used in the forgery.
A police official said that a major racket has been unearthed as scores of SIM cards have been found used in sensitive parts of Kashmir.
The official identified the accused as Sajad Ahmad Baba, Gowhar Ahmad Geelani, Abid Bilal Qadri, Mushtaq Shah alias Mastan, Azmatullah Bhat and Kanwol Jeet Singh (printing press owner).
The persons who get SIM cards on these fake documents were also found involved in harassing the girls.
Police said that an FIR 01/2018 under Section 420, 472 RPC has been registered and further investigations were going on in this regard.
