Srinagar, Oct 21: Militants killed a man in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district while three others were still in their custody in North Kashmir’s Baramulla town. Security forces today launched a massive search operation against a group of militants and arrested 25 persons including Over Ground Workers (OGWs).
Police recovered a bullet-riddled body of a youth identified as Shameen Ahmad Patloo at Arwani area of Kulgam district in South Kashmir this morning. “He was missing and perhaps kidnapped by militants. His bullet-riddled body was recovered today morning,” he said.
Sources said that five youth of the area were picked up by militants and one of them was shot dead and another was released while three are still in their custody. The released youth has told the police that he was picked up by unknown persons and was severely beaten up.
In the meantime, a major anti-militancy operation was today launched in Old Town Baramulla in North Kashmir second time this week and 25 people including OGWs of militants were detained.
The operation was launched by the Police, Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Force (BSF) after inputs that 3-4 militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) are hiding in the area and have set up bases there.
Sources said that the militants, who have made bases in the Old Town for last three months had fled from the area when the operation was launched. He said that these militants have created a network in the area and operation conducted second time this week was aimed at dismantling their bases.
Sources said that 25 persons were detained today during the operation. They said that 5-6 of them are OGWs of militants and rest of them are wanted by police in various offences during the 104 days of unrest.
They said that few people who were arrested by the security forces on Monday from the Old Town have been released but 30 people are still detained. They are being questioned and some of them are OGWs of the militants.
The group of JeM militants based in the Old Town Baramulla has carried out two attacks in the town, one in August on an Army convoy in which two Army men and one cop was killed and another attack on an Army camp in Old Town area early this month in which one BSF man was killed and another was injured.
