KATHUA, Feb 27: A middle aged man shot himself to death with the Desi gun at his residence in village Dolda near Sheetal Nagri in Basohli tehsil of Kathua district this evening.
According to Basohli police it received a phone call at 6-30 pm that a middle aged man identified as Madan Lal ,40, son of Kamlu of Dodla village shot himself in the neck with a desi gun this evening resulting in his instant death.
Police said the cause of this extreme step taken by him was not known. However it is said that Madan Lal’s wife had expired over a week ago and her 10th Day ceremony took place today. After the relatives and villagers left the house and the ceremony ended, he took out the Desi gun and shot himself leaving three small daughters behind.
It is presumed that Lal could not bear the death of his wife and soon after the relatives and neighbours left he ended his life.
A Police party from Basohli left for the village soon after receiving the information but being a secluded area 35 km away from Basohli it has not reached in the village till last reports came in as from Sheetal Nagri Dodla is 10 km away and there is no road connectivity. The police party has to cover the distance by foot.
