Srinagar, Dec 10: A major blaze tragedy was today evening averted by Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Department in highly congested Koker Bazar market of Lal Chowk here in city centre.
An official of F&ES Department told Excelsior that fire broke out this evening from a structure housing Shah Electronics at Koker Bazar. He said that after being informed, fifteen fire tenders were pressed into service along with portable pumps as the market is highly congested.
“Given the sensitivity of the matter, we started major firefighting operation and managed to douse the blaze shortly, thus saving entire market. The locals guided us well as it is a congested place,” he said. However during the firefighting operation, a leading fireman Abdul Rashid was injured. “He has been rushed to hospital,” the official said.
