UDHAMPUR, Aug 18:  Demanding immediate release of land compensation in their favour, the inhabitants of various villages of tehsil Majalta, whose land has been acquired by PMGSY Department, held protest in front of DC Office Udhampur.
The protestors alleged that the entire amount of land compensation, released under PMGSY for Ramnagar constituency, had been withdrawn by the local MLA leaving more than two thousand affected people high and dry. They raised slogans against the MLA for divesting the poor people of their share of compensation.
Protester said that land had been acquired for several PMGSY roads during 2012, 2013 and 2014 with a clause in the agreement that the land providers for construction of the said roads would be given adequate compensation as per the market rate prevailing in the area. Even as they submitted details of villages in which land had been acquired by the PMGSY Deptt, no  compensation was paid to them.
They said that land acquisitions without payment of compensation had affected thousands of families who had been deprived of their sources of livelihood. They strongly condemned the authorities concerned for playing in the hands of political persons while depriving the un-influential and indigent farmers.
They warned to start an agitation in case their claims are  not settled at the earliest.
