Silver lining

A ray of hope supples life,
Relieving the mind in the fix embroiled
Up above the worldly glitches
Faith in self it stitches.
Tis a divine gift to cherish that softens the edges so harsh.
After murky gloom around
Lo! Comes the beamy glow.
To tide over the appalling grief,
And drift across the ebb low.
Ponder thou not on the hazy future
And nay the past arrear
Present maketh the world go around
Bliss's the life teeming abound
Uphold hope ye mortal being!
Rendezvous with the joi de vivre and sing.

Reminiscence

Ye, still haunt the novice day
Season of immaturity and the way
To move aimlessly and pay
No heed to moving chariot, May
One restore the epoch lost and gone
The treasure of past and the asset
Wandering and enjoying in the lawn
Voluntarily out in the rain to get wet
Nay none can steel so sweet past
Awaits a stage to sing swansong
And leave behind material world vast
Enter and exist the queue so long
None could win the material race
Good deeds always preserve the grace

"Thank you for Not smoking"

My better half woke me up one day,
And charged me as good-for-nothing bloke;
While the sun shines, people make hay,
I would do nothing, but only smoke.
"How much do you love me?" She enquired,
Before rushing off to the slim, 'n' trim figurette;
"Darling, you are as dear to me," I replied,
"As my morning's first Marlboro cigarette!?
"But smoking is injurious to health" she cried,
"And how dare you equate me with Lady Nicotine"
"Give up smoking or give up me" she fumed,
"Before you change from living form to has been!'
Instead of the usual deep inhaling, I gave a deeper thought,
No more smoking for me, no more cigarettes to be ever bought;
Let us all contribute to a pollution free environment,
Smoking should be completely banned by Government.

The light of my day

The person with a cute smile
The smile that extended for a long mile
The person who filled light into my dark day
To each other very less Hi's we used to say
Without seeing her face my day would not start
I used to think about her whenever we were apart
Seeing her a natural smile came to my face
Watching her laugh with her friends I used to pass my days
My eyes used to find her whenever she was out of sight
Remembering her I used to pass my sleepless night
To talk to me she came in my dreams
The dreams which fortunately did not end with screams
To her I always wanted to say
That she was the light of my day
I hardly remember with we talked to each other
I know I have to spend the days of my life without her further
But even if she does not care, I'll always count her in my most remember able friends
The friends who will not be with me in my life's any more bends.

Q: Do you think that every debt is paid by money?
A: No. There are many debts which cannot be liquidated with money power. Debt of gratitude can never be re-paid with money.
MUKESH KUMAR, JAMMU
Q: What is difference between etiquette and manners?
A: Any good dictionary can tell make you understand the difference between the two. While the etiquette means formal standards or rules of correct and polite behaviour in a society or among members of a profession, the manners can be described as traditionally accepted ways of behaving, that show a polite respect for other people. Again the manners can further be classified as good or bad.
RAMANDEEP SINGH, JAMMU
Q: Shoot for the Moon, because even if you miss, you may land among stars. Comment?
A: You have asked this question in a reverse way, because in your consideration, the moon is bigger than stars. Your question should have been like, “Shoot at the stars because if you miss you may atleast land on moon”, which is very much in our solar system and near to Planet Earth.
SAGAR KOUL, VIKAS LANE
Q: Early success in life is sometimes damaging. Those toppers often achieve their success at the cost of total quality of experience and once the failure strike them they get absolutely panicky. There are people whose career came to peak at 17 and then it has been declining ever since. Comment?
A: It is rightly said that to attain heights, one should climb up gradually putting his foot firmly on the ladder, so that he could also understand the way to climb down, otherwise there is every apprehension of getting slipped and dashed to the ground. The more height you scale at a stretch, the more is danger of having a bitter fall. The Mool Mantra is ‘slow and steady wins the race’.

Q: Is it true that sacrifice is compulsory in some religions? Is it not violence?
A: Yes. It is true that different types of animals are sacrificed to please the deities of particular sects of religions, which is always seen as a compulsory obligation for the members of any particular sect. Is it a violation or not is a subject of debate, because vegetarians term it a violence, while non-vegetarians describe it logical.
KHALIL BANDEY, JAMMU
Q: During the recent snowfall in the State, entire Government machinery, including the Chief Minister, was busy in taking care of the people of snow-hit areas of Kashmir valley, but none the people of twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri, could attract sight of the Chief Minister towards this border belt, where the people suffered the most. Your comment?
A: Domination of Kashmiri leaders over Jammu province has been a historic reality and if our Chief Minister, though belonging to Jammu province, is carrying on the same agenda which continue to be pursued since accord of J&K State with Union of India till date, there should be no surprise. Not only the people of border districts of Poonch and Rajouri, but of entire Jammu province will have to think collectively and find out a permanent solution to this menace.
GULZAR ALI MIR, RAMBAN
Q: I am a student but unable to concentrate on my studies. Please tell me what should I do to get free from this problem?
A: First of all you must realise the meaning of a student. A student is supposed to remain a student and learn whatever is taught to him by his teachers. There is no remedy for a student than to keep himself busy in his studies. If you are adamant to get yourself free from this problem, stop reading and opt for some vocational course or training so as to enable yourself to eke out your living in some other discipline.
PRABHAT KUMAR JHA, JAMMU
Q: In the wake of recent murder of a British teenager Scarlett at Goa, how do you see its influence and impact on tourism in India?
A: Though Indian press blew the case to its entirety forcing the Government to order a thorough probe into the case, yet I am of the opinion that this episode would have a little or no impact on tourism in India, such isolated crime do occur in every part of the world, but the caravan goes on.
WANI SHAKEEL, ALINBASS
Q: Tension grips the brain and love is felt in heart, then why people get heart attack when they are in tension and why they go mad when in love?
A: These are only poets who have projected or sought to project the relationship between love and the heart, because the heart is only a blood pumping organ, which keep on working as long as a person is alive. The element of love generates in the brain and the eyes are equally to be blamed for that. Heart attack occurs when the heart stops functioning properly and one goes mad when his brain starts behaving abnormally. Love has nothing to do with both the ailments.
SAHIL BHAT, PALOURA JAMMU
Q: Right to protest is a democratic right, but the way it emerged in employees, organizations, workers etc. has proved fatal for common people. Is it not a matter of concern?
A: It is certainly a matter of concern, because the organizations of employees resort to strikes in such a way that a common person is put to inconveniences, while the leaders of such organizations keep themselves busy in deriving maximum gains from the strikes called by them, the common man’s life is put to jeopardy.
ASHRAF KATOCH, RAMSU
Q: A selfish person does not understand the language of the selfless person. Do you agree?
A: I fully agree with you because a selfish person would go to any extent to sell his rotten fish to maintain his sell-fish behaviour. How can he understand the language of a selfless person?
BALBIR KUMAR, JAMMU
Q: Now-a-days love affair is something like cricket where One Day International matches are more popular that five day test matches. Your view?
A: With the fast changing world scenario the meaning of love has also undergone a sea-change. Your assertion that way is very much correct, but I would like to add that the love affair must not take the turn towards Twenty-20 and then stoop very much low to six over matches, being played now-a-days in some countries. All out efforts are required to maintained the sanctity of love.

J K KAUL, JAMMU

Q: Should political persons head Boards and Public Sector undertakings?
A: I am of the view that not the political persons but the people possessing enough of knowledge in the particular trade or field should be made heads of such organizations, to prevent nepotism and undue political interference in such organizations.
RISHAB RAINA, GANGYAL
Q: Can hockey still be termed as National Game of India despite its debacle and not qualifying for the next Olympic games?
A: Hockey is still the National Game of India. The only need is to ponder over as to what went wrong and from where the strings slipped out of hands. Cricket team of India till 1983 World Cup was used to be considered as under-dogs, but the victory enthused confidence among the players. If all the facilities are provided to the national game, I am sure, it would certainly prove “Chak De India” one day.
SUNNY THUSOO, Via e-mail
Q: ‘Friendship is painful’, pleasure for sometime but pain for ever. Comment?
A: Friendship is never painful until one of the two friends develops self interest over some issue. Friendship also gives birth to enemies, but that does not mean that friendship is always harmful, because these are only the friends who come to your rescue when you are in need.
