The Great Sports Carnival

Dr. Pragya Khanna

The Olympics is for champions who've trained to do their best, and striven for perfection, so they may pass the test; And thus receive Gold Medals for all their efforts here, as Champion of Champions, for whom the crowds do cheer. The Olympics aims at bringing people from all over the world together. It aspires to improve the human race, not only physically, but to give it a greater nobility of spirit, and to reinforce understanding and amity amongst people.
The first Olympic Games were held in the year 776 BC by the ancient Greeks and were held every four years, for 1,170 years till 393 AD and then they were abolished by the Christian Byzantine Emperor Theodosius I. In fact the Greek calendar was based on the Olympiad, that is, the four-year period between the games. The earlier games were held in the valley of Olympia in Elis that has a number of temples devoted to the supreme god Zeus and the winners of these early games were crowned with wreaths from a holy olive tree that grew behind the temple of Zeus.
However after a period of suspension the successful crusade to restore the Olympics was started in France by Baron Pierre de Coubertin late in the 19th century. The first of the modern Summer Games was opened on Sunday, March 24, 1896, in Athens, Greece.
The ancient Greeks were highly spirited and believed strongly in the idea of competition. The ultimate Greek goal was to be the best and unsurpassed and all facets of existence and life were centered on this concept. It was therefore considered one of the greatest honors to win a victory at Olympia. The fact that the only prize given at Olympia was an olive wreath illustrates this point. The athletes struggled for honor and nobility.
Today, 16 centuries later, the Olympic Games still attract participants from countries all over the world. The best athletes in the world contest their talent and endurance in a series of competitions as almost every nation sends teams of selected athletes to take part. The rationale of the Olympic Games is to cultivate the ideal of a 'sound mind in a sound body' and to endorse friendship among nations.
The flag of the Olympic Games has five interlocking rings of blue, yellow, black, green, and red colors on a white ground. The rings represent the five parts of the world that were joined together in the Olympic movement, viz., Africa, America, Asia, Australia and Europe. For each Olympics, a new flame is started in the ancient Olympic stadium in Olympia, Greece, using a parabolic mirror to focus the rays of the Sun. This flame begins its Olympic Torch Relay by touring Greece. The flame is then taken to the country where the games are to be held.
The Summer Olympic Games 2008 is a main international multi-sport event which is being celebrated in Beijing, People's Republic of China from 8th August to 24th August, 2008. About 10,500 athletes are likely to contend in 302 events in 28 sports. The Government of China has promoted the games to emphasize the surfacing of China on the world stage and has invested heavily in new facilities and transportation systems. The main attraction of the 2008 Summer Olympics is the Beijing National Stadium, designated as the 'Bird nest' because of its nest-like skeletal structure. The stadium constitutes a lattice-like concrete frame forming the stadium bowl which has a seating capacity of over 90,000 people. The 2008 Summer Olympics emblem is known as Dancing Beijing; it is filled with Beijing's hospitality and hopes, and carries the dedication to the world. The motto for the 2008 Olympics is 'One World, One Dream', it portrays the whole world in the Olympic spirit to build a better future for humanity.
The 2008 Olympic has five mascots called Fuwa that literally mean 'good luck dolls' originally known as 'Friendlies' in English. The Fuwa consist of five members that consist of fish, giant panda, fire, Tibetan antelope, and swallow designs. Each Fuwa, named Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying, and Nini, have one of the colors of the five Olympic Rings as their main colour that stand for the five continents. When the initial syllables of each of the five names are said together, the result is the expression which means 'Beijing welcomes you'.
The medal for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games is designed with inspiration coming from 'bi', that is China's ancient olive piece extolled with dragon pattern. The medals, made of gold and olive, symbolize nobility and virtue and are personification of customary Chinese values of moral principles and honor, sending into the world the strong Chinese flavor.
With such a promise it really seems exhilarating and enlivening to participate in an event like this. Let us hope that the virtues, morals and doctrine of Olympiad are bequeathed upon the whole world equally and everyone leads a life full of solace and hope.
Life is like the Olympics, where those who want the "Gold," must work hard to obtain it, though they be young or old,
And strive to reach perfection each day, their whole life through, so they may win Celestial Gold, that's worthy to pursue.

Shri Hudh Mata Trisandhaya

Raghunath Thakur

The Northern most region of India, mostly covered by Himalayas, in which our State also falls, is known as the abode of many Gods -Goddess, Devi- Devatas, Reshis-Munis and Peers-Faqirs, and more particularly of Shiv-Parvati (Shiv Shakti). Wherever they stayed, lived and worshiped have become the Shrines a source of Spiritual powers, the ray of hope for the sufferers of the present age. In fact, India as a whole, is a land of Shrines belonging to different faiths which protect the places and the devotees and fulfill their unaccomplished desires and needs. God has kept His Symbolics everywhere to ameliorate the sufferings of the humanity through the spiritual powers these symbolics possess.
The newly created District Kishtwar, like other Districts, is also known as the land of Shrines and pilgrimages of different faiths, the most renowned are Sarthal Devi Shrine of Kali Mata, Chandi Mata Shrine in Machail Padder and Shrines of Shah -I - Asrar Sahib in proper Kishtwar and so many.
There is also a famous Holy Shrine, known as SHRI HUDH MAT ATRISINDYA MATA, located at a height of about 12000fts from the sea level near the famous BRAHAMA PEAK, said to be the abode of Lord Brahma in Nanth Nallah village of Dachhan, which is unknown to the devotees and the world. No mountaineer has so far dared to scale this Peak. One side of this Peak is always covered with snow and clouds. About two-three kms away from the Holy Shrine, there flows TRISINDHY A stream (NADI) miraculously thrice a day from the top of a hill and stops naturally; which means that it is not a regular flowing Stream (Nadi) like other Streams (Nadi-Nallahs) and mostly remains dry. The volume of the water is so much that a water mill can easily function. There is neither any lake nor any pond on the top of the hill where from the water flows. "TRISANDHYA" means three times of worship as per Hindu Mythology i.e early morning, noon and evening prayers. "HUDH", by the passage of time, is the distorted form of "HUTT", a Hindi word, which means to offer in the shape of AHUTI (Offerings): To offer completely: Essential material for Havan: to Sacrifice oneself for Good cause. Since Mata Parvita Sacrificed her self for good cause i.e for the Honour and respect of Lord Shiva, her Husband and for herself also by jumping in the Havan Kund so she is called as Hudh Mata-Sati Mata
The astonishing fact is that water recedes flowing from the bottom of the Stream for two-three hours. After sometime it starts decreasing. After two-three hours even a single drop of water is not seen and those who are unlucky not to see it do not get such chance. At some occasions the water does not flow at all as per its routine. In that case the pilgrims believe that TRISINDHY A MAT A is not pleased to give Darshan to them and they return sadly and disappointed without having a bath and those who get chance of bathing believe that their Yatra has been accomplished/accepted. It is a miraculous Darshan perhaps very very rare in the State or in the country. The Author had the opportunity of visiting the Shrine twice, Firstly in 1987 and Secondly in 2004. In 1987, TRINSANDHAYA MATA was pleased to give Darshan as it flowed at its usual time and had a bath in the pious water. But in the year 2004, despite waiting for two days he had to return disappointed and empty handed without having any darshan of the flowing Nadhi and a pious bath as the TRISANDHAY A Nadhi did not flow as usual. However, he had the darshan of a live snake which is always seen near the Shrine or in the temple during yatra days. Pears of pigeons are also seen near the cave with whose darshans the devotees feel delighted.
Due to lack of Motorable road connectivity from Patrimhalla to Dachhan, the Shrine has remained unknown to the rest of the State/Country and the World. and does not find place in the Religious Tourist Map of the Country. The local administration has not done any positive thing for the exploration and publicity of this shrine. If the devotees come to know about this miraculous Shrine, they will certainly prefer to see this Shrine and perform this Yatra and have a dip in the pious waters of TRlSINDHYA NADI. The abundant tourist potentiality of the area has remained unnoticed and un exploited so far.
Pilgrims have to travel about 50/60 kms on foot to perform the Yatra. If Patimhalla Dacchan Motorable road is constructed, it can reduce the journey by 50% and the devotees shall have to travel only 25/30 kms on foot. We hope that there will be great rush of pilgrims to this Shrine also which can be a boon for the Tourist Industry of the State and this can bring the Shrine on the Religious Tourist Map of the Country. It can change the socio-economic condition not only of the inhabitants of the area but of the State as a whole.

Sonam is special to me

Be it for his slipping towel, his arm-candy Deepika Padukone or he being the fourth generation of the Kapoor khandan –the one-film old Ranbir Kapoor is has become the new heart throb of Bollywood. Trans World Features correspondent Sreya Basu jostled with mediapersons and fans to catch up with Ranbir when he breezed the city Sunday to promote his second film 'Bachna Ae Haseeno'.
How different is 'Bachna..' from 'Sawaariya' ?
Both 'Sawaariya' and 'Bachna…' are romantic films. But 'Sawaariya' is solely a Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film. It was my first film and the best break I can ever dream of. But I am creatively more involved in 'Bachna…'.
So you are playing a Casanova in the film romancing three heroines?
I don't play a Casanova in 'Bachchna…'. Instead I play a boy-next-door who falls in love with three girls at different chapters of his life. First there is Bipasha Basu, then Minissha Lamba and finally with Deepika Padukone which is the longest and the most romantic one.
Just like in real life?
Yes.
Don't you think people will rush to the theatres to see the two of you wooing each other?
Both of us have just started our career. We would appreciate if people talk about the film and our characters instead of linking our personal life with the romance on-screen.
You have already inherited the 'lover-boy' image of your father Rishi Kapoor. Are you not going to try something else?
I can never be Rishi Kapoor ever. He is so spontaneous! Till date he has the capacity to woo all the haseenas of Bollywood better than me. As for the lover-boy image, give me two more years and you will find me beating up twenty goons single-handedly.
Your first film was not a hit…
'Sawaariya' was not a commercially hit film. But I expect 'Bachna…' to be a box office scorer.
How does it feel to become the Bollywood heartthrob just after the debut film?
Well, I never expected this kind of attention so early in my career. When people come to me for autographs, I feel like saying 'Wow!' I hope it continues forever.
Are you cool with newcomers like Imraan Khan and Neil Nitin Mukesh?
Absolutely. Why only two names- right from Amitabh Bachchan to Darsheel Zafari-Bollywood has never been so competitive till the last two years. Every day a new actor takes the reign. So see if I start worrying about these things, I will have a nervous breakdown.
There was news that your friendship with Sonam Kapoor broke off after your relationship with Deepika?
This is not the right moment to comment on this. But I will take that. Sonam and me are friends over the last five years. She is too special for me but we never had an affair. So why should our friendship break off because of Deepika. It's just that we are busy with our respective films and hence seldom get a chance to meet each other. But there is no negativity between us.(TWF)

Nature's own moisturizer

Shahnaz Husain

Moisture is the skin's basic requirement. It keeps the skin soft, healthy and youthful. The skin loses moisture to the environment, when humidity is low, or is lowered by artificial means through air conditioning and heating. Exposure to the sun, chlorinated water, pollutants in the air, make-up cosmetics can all cause moisture depletion. Oily skins can also be short of moisture. This happens during the dry winter season, when there is a superficial dryness of the outermost layer of the skin. You can identify it by the taut, uncomfortable feeling immediately after washing. Some areas of the skin may also acquire tiny white flakes.
In your home and right there on the kitchen shelf is one of the most powerful natural moisturizers…..honey! Actually, honey is a humectant, and attracts moisture to the skin from the atmosphere. In fact, it is one of the most versatile natural products. It contains several vitamins and minerals, like Vitamins B and C, calcium, iron, potassium, sodium, as well as amino acids and enzymes.
Honey has medicinal values too and has been employed in home remedies for simple ailments for generations. As far as skin care is concerned, it has been used as a beauty aid and for its healing benefits in topical applications, for centuries. According to ancient records and texts, honey was applied on the skin to soothe and heal injuries and burns. It was also used to treat skin conditions like eczema and dermatitis. Honey is also an anti-irritant, which means that it can be applied even on sensitive skins and for conditions like dehydrated skin sensitivity. Its anti-oxidant properties increases its importance in skin care, in terms of preventing oxidation damage and delaying the manifestation of ageing signs on the skin.
If you have dry skin, apply honey daily and wash it off with plain water after 20 minutes. You can also mix honey with a few drops of orange juice. Apply this on the face for 20 minutes and wash off with water.
For dry skin, you can also mix half a teaspoon honey, one teaspoon rose water and one teaspoon dried milk powder. Mix into a paste and apply on the face. Remove after 20 minutes with water.
Add one-quarter cup of honey to your bath water to relieve dryness and soften the skin on the body.
Honey suits both oily and combination skin. In fact, it is most useful for oily skins, since moisturizing creams and lotions can block the pores and lead to blackheads and pimples. For oily skin, mix honey with egg white and apply on the skin daily, washing it off after 20 minutes with plain water. Egg white has a cleansing effect, reducing oiliness, while honey will soften the skin and nourish it. If you have a combination skin, apply honey by itself on the entire face, as it would suit both oily and dry areas.
Honey, with its antiseptic and healing properties can also be used on pimple-prone skins and even if there is a severe acne condition. In fact, people with acne often suffer from superficial dryness and flaking of the skin. Honey would be ideal. Mix one teaspoon honey with yoghurt (curd) and apply on the face. Wash it off after 20 minutes. It would relieve dryness and also soothe and nourish the skin. Both honey and yoghurt have a healing effect on acne. Yoghurt, which contains lactic acid, also helps to restore the normal acid-alkaline balance, so necessary in acne conditions.
Honey can be useful in face masks, for all skin types. Mix wheat bran (choker) or oatmeal with honey. Rose water can be also be added. Mix into a smooth paste and apply on the face. Wash off when it is dry or after 20 minutes. This mask may be used two or three times a week to keep the skin soft, supple and youthful.
Honey can also be used to revitalize dry and damaged hair. After your shampoo, stir one teaspoon honey in 4 cups of warm water and use it as a last rinse, to condition the hair and add shine. Or, mix one teaspoon honey with sesame seed (til) oil or olive oil. Massage this into the scalp and hair, half an hour before your shampoo. It would really help to soften dry hair, adding lustre.
Today, honey is an important ingredient in the formulation of products for beauty care from moisturizers, skin toners and masks, to hand creams, body lotions and hair conditioners. This most versatile beauty aid is actually within easy reach in your home, on your kitchen shelf. It provides a safety factor, which is a decided advantage. It does not contain preservatives, artificial fragrances, colour or essences. In other words, it is totally natural, in every sense of the word. So make the most of it.

Dementia The crippling disease

Maneka Gandhi

My friend’s mother died last week. She had suffered from dementia for 5 years and in these years , family life had come to a halt. She was violent and scared. On good days she was a child and talked to her long dead father. On bad days , she accused her daughter in law who looked after her devotedly of all sorts of crimes, threw things, beat off people, packed her clothes three times a day and boarded imaginary planes. She was in and out of hospital as she broke limbs, got bedsores and high blood pressure. Everyone was relieved for her when she died because it had been 5 years of enormous suffering,
My aunt has just entered the first phase of dementia. She is 84. She remembers only her teenage years and her schoolteachers . All of us have disappeared from her memory and so has her daughter with whom she lives. She alternates between beatific vagueness and hostile suspicion.
The older you get, the higher your risk of developing dementia. Dementia is widely recognised as a major medical, social and economic problem in developed countries where the over 65s account for an increasingly high percentage of the population. Unfortunately dementia is now becoming a major problem in developing countries where it did not exist 50 years ago. More than 50 million people have dementia and the most common cause of this dementia is Alzheimer's disease.
By 2025 this figure is expected to double with 71 per cent of these likely to live in developing countries, making the need for prevention of an uncurable disease crucial. Most populations are getting older . In U.K 20% of the population is 65 and older. By 2025 25% of people in Canada will be 65 years or older. 8% of all Western populations are currently are affected by moderate to severe dementia— a collection of symptoms that significantly impair thinking, normal activities and relationships — and 10-15% have mild, early and borderline demented states.
There are several forms of dementia. They include:
Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia in people 65 and older. Nearly all brain functions, including memory, movement, language, judgment, behaviour, and abstract thinking, are affected. To give you an idea of figures, one in 20 Americans have Alzheimer's. The number rises to one in four over age 85.
Binswanger's disease is dementia characterized by damage to small blood vessels in the brain as a result of hardening of the arteries to the brain.
Dementia is characterized by confusion and intellectual impairment. The symptoms include loss of memory, judgment and reasoning, changes in behaviour and communication abilities. mood swings, depression, irritability, and trouble learning new things, making a decision or remembering facts. One in five people with dementia will become aggressive and can pose a danger to himself or herself or the people he or she lives with.. There is no cure only a progression of symptoms.
Understandably, the scientists are worried and studies are being done all over the world to find a reason and thereby a way to prevent the onset of symptoms. Diet is one factor researchers are investigating for its role in reducing the risk of dementia . One of the most important studies , running into millions of dollars, has been done by the Department of Preventive Medicine , Looma Linda University, CA called the Adventist Health Study. They looked into the incidence of dementia and intake of animal products and these were their findings :
*Beans, legumes and peanuts are rich in vitamins and minerals, folate, omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants.
Tomatoes contain an antioxidant called lycopene, which reduces the oxidation of 'bad' cholesterol, and could in turn reduce the risk of clogged arteries and heart disease and strokes. .
How do you want to grow old ? At home with your grandchildren or in a home with other patients of dementia ? You make the choice with every meal you eat.

Chandrayan-I India’s Mission to Moon

G V Joshi

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch its ambitious and maiden mission to the moon, Chandrayaan-I, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota some time in mid-September 2008, on board India’s proved Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, which was used to launch 10 satellites in one go in April 2008.
The 525-kg satellite will be placed in the 100-km polar orbit around the moon and it will have a lifetime of two years.
ISRO scientists have completed the integration of 11 instruments - six indigenous and five from other countries like the US, the UK, Germany and Bulgaria under international cooperation - onto the spacecraft. The testing is in progress at the ISRO Satellite Centre in Bangalore. All these instruments have made Chandrayan I, a true International collaboration effort.
The idea of launching Chandrayaan was initially mooted in a meeting of the Indian Academy of Sciences in 1999. This was followed up by discussions in the Astronautical Society of India in 2000. Based on their recommendations a National Lunar Mission Task Force was constituted by the ISRO .The task force recommended that it will be worthwhile to launch Chandrayaan. After ‘in depth’ discussions, it was unanimously recommended that India should undertake the Mission to Moon.
Chandrayan-1 will observe the Moon from various angles, and beam back pictures on its chemical, physical and chemical characteristics, besides its crater history. The spacecraft will also survey the minerals on the Moon. The data may also throw light on the origin and evolution of the Moon and other bodies of the planetary systems, and the evolution of life on the earth.
Chandrayan -I will take about five days to reach the Moon, which is 3.84-lakh km away, and will have a life of two years.
The Chandrayan - I is a cube approximately 1.50 m side, Weighing 1304 kg at launch and 590 kg at lunar orbit. It accommodates eleven science payloads. The power generation would be through single-sided solar array to provide required power during all phases of the mission.
The Moon will be mapped with a high accuracy of five-metre resolution, with a stereoscopic camera.
According to mathematicians working at ISRO, there are three ways of sending a spacecraft to the moon. The Russians and the Americans have used the simplest method of sending the spacecraft into a low parking earth orbit and then boosting it to the lunar orbit.
According to Shri. Adimurthy, from Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), “Instead of putting the spacecraft in the circular parking orbit, it is better to put it into an elliptic orbit first and then send it to the Moon at an appropriate time.
The PSLV will inject the craft in the elliptical geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO), (285 km x 36,000 km). From here, it would be sent towards the moon by firing rockets. This is the fastest and cheapest way of going to the moon, well within the PSLV’s capability.
Once in the lunar orbit, the craft will come under the influence of the Moon’s gravity. Small rockets would be used to achieve lunar polar orbit.
This solar array consisting of a single panel generates 700W of peak power. During the periods when sunlight does not fall on the solar panel, it will be powered by Lithium ion (Li-Ion) batteries. The spacecraft employs a parabolic antenna for payload data transmission to Earth.
The spacecraft uses a special propulsion system to reach lunar orbit as well as orbit and attitude maintenance while going round the Moon. The propulsion system carries required propellants for a mission life of 2 years, with adequate margin. The spacecraft has three Solid State Recorders (SSRs) on board to record data from various instruments on board.
Chandrayan-II - to be undertaken soon afterwards would have a proper Moon Lander, which would land on the lunar surface and try to explore the surface in far more details.
ISRO is also planning to send a man into space to orbit around the earth ahead of moon mission.
In the words of Shri. Adimurthy, “More than receiving information about the Moon, the mission will provide ISRO a platform to undertake future inter-planetary expeditions.” (PTI)

JUNK FOOD

Ms Priya Seht

Health is wealth. Nowadays, the people are tarnishing their own health by eating what we now call as junk food. People are stealing wealth from their own hands by eating such foodstuff. Why is the fast food known as junk food? It is because junk = trash = rubbish. We are mingling this trash in our wealth to ruin our health. It is said that healthy mind resides in a healthy body but when the unhealthy body is there, then what? No healthy mind then?
Every person has a fervor of having pizzas, burgers, etc but what about the homemade food? Is it a toxic which when consumed will become lethal? We are least concerned about our health. By eating junk, people get deprived of the nutrients they get from home cooked food. The cold drink, which is being drunk, contains pesticides and as experts say, “Cold drinks mean toilet cleaner” and these very cold drinks dissolve calcium and enamel also.
Eating junk food causes many problems like obesity as the food contains innumerable amount of fats along with extra carbohydrates and salts. This even results in problems like High Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, anemia and many such detrimental problems. Eating fast food increases the possibility of cardiac problems in children also. The food that the people eat may contain contaminated stuff and many things that they might not be sentient of.
People relish such trash food and forget that they are jeopardizing their health. They trust the chefs preparing such foodstuff without even realizing about the consequences.
At each and every corner of the city, you’ll find youth sitting in hubs and ruining their health by eating all sorts of junk food. They are not even aware as to what type of ingredient has been put in their food.
The T.V. shows also show the ways in which things are cooked in cities and once you see them, you’ll leave fast food forever.
The old people are so vigorous and muscular that one sometimes doubt whether they are old or not. But when you see the condition of youth, you’ll be bemused to see their condition because they are so lazy and lethargic.
The food may be prepared unhygienically.
In the present scenario, we are having this junk food probably because of lack of time but we must understand that by eating such things we are inviting trouble. We must realize that we have the wealth of health in our own hands and can either make it or break it.

Cosmic Uplink through Sadguru

Pt. R.C.Awasthi, Shastri….

Our Shastras say “Yasya na swanya pragya ,shastra tarya kroti kim Lochnabhyam vheenasya darpanam kim krishyati?”( What good can Shastras do to a man who does not use his inherent genius. What can the mirror do to a person who has no eyes to see ?). Similarly, in our indigenous parlance it is said “Paani peeje pun ke, guru keeje chun ke” (Drink the water only, after purifying it by passing it through a sieve, adopt guru similarly after a thorough scrutiny). Our culture is built upon values of Dharam, (Pious way of life) Arath, (Financial well being) Kaam (fulfillment of desires) and Moksha (Supreme freedom). The supreme freedom (Moksha) is the very essence and the purpose of spiritual pursuit. Sadly, in modern times, it is a culture in which most of our authorities have not only failed to live up to their stature but have in many cases acted hypocritically. Given the complexity of religious and cultural circumstances in India, it is understandable that the idea of spiritual master be misunderstood.. Yet, we are faced the blatant abuses of power and trust in spiritual traditions. This has prevented many people from recognizing the possibilities inherent to the relationship between an authentic spiritual teacher and his or her student.
The requirement is a principle and practice of a conscious discipleship that is fully empowered, intelligent, and discriminating. Conscious discipleship,’ places the power and responsibility back into the hands and heart of the disciple by the Sadguru immediately after he or she initiated. It is a Conscious discipleship that involves a thorough and systematic process of self-focused enquiry and verification. Moreover, conscious discipleship is required in order to maintain a relationship of mutual growth even if a complete surrender of the self or ego by the disciple before Sadguru invariably and ultimately follows the process for radical transformation of the disciple.
This “eye center,” as it is usually described is sometimes identified with the pineal gland, it is the point at which yogis meditate to concentrate the soul-consciousness that stands diffused elsewhere throughout the body. It is from there that the soul can flee the body into higher subtle realms. Even if it does, the soul will not yet be fully free. Once it has left the body, through death or through techniques of soul projection during its earthly life, the soul can lodge itself in other forms of selfhood. Nevertheless, these ethereal bodies are also under the realm of “Kaal” and “Maya”. They are bound to rotate in different ‘Yonis ‘albeit at varied degrees.
There are the snares in the path of true spirituality, and the soul must extricate itself from them. One of these forms is called the astral and another is called causal, and the soul may be burdened with each in turn before it can disencumber itself of the need to be attached to any form at all and reunite with its parent soul— The Param Purush.
Once it has rejected the physical, spiritual and mental artifices of mind the soul is ready to slough off this world and begin its ascent. But how should it proceed? The first words in the answer to that question are “not alone, “ for one must have a guide, a master to beckon and befriend the soul both in the physical plane and in the higher, interior planes. A desire, if it is so to be said for the salvation of jeevatma, requires trust in the Sadguru.
Now we can see why: the passage out of the material realm requires a master skill in navigation, for the deceptions of “mind” make an independent voyage virtually impossible for jeevatma. As Madhu Paramhansji puts it, the Sadguru (master)”steers the soul safely from plane to plane by concealing him in him to keep him away from the allurements of mind. Thus Sadguru and Jeevatma become Joyful riders together en route this Sojourn to the Ultimate throughout the cosmic seas. Sadguru is the pivot and a guarantee of Jivatmas Mukti (liberation of soul-in-bondage). Linking with Sadguru is uplinking with super-cosmic beyond all spheres of Sagun and Nirgun.
