SRINAGAR, Dec 8: Demanding shifting of United Nations Military Observers (UNMO) office from Srinagar, the BJP general secretary Ram Madhav said it was unnecessary provocation for separatists to organise marches.
However, former Chief Minister and working president of the main opposition National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah was quick to react and dared Mr Madhav to shift the UNMO office from here.
Taking to micro blogging site Twitter, the BJP general secretary, incharge of J&K, said, “UN office at Srinagar is an unnecessary provocation for separatists to organise marches. Pak has it in Rawalpindi. Why do we have it in Srinagar”.
He suggested in a tweet shifting the office to some other part of the country saying, “Pakistan has it in Rawalpindi. Why do we have it in Srinagar, he had asked in the tweet.
Madhav’s tweet came following call by separatists to people to march to the UNMO office at Sonawar in Srinagar from different parts of the Valley on December 10 and handover a memorandum to military observers, demanding right to self determination.
Both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), spearheading the agitation since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two other militants were killed in an encounter in Anantnag, have already extended strike till December 15.
However, there will be three day relaxation from Saturday in the strike.
Reacting to BJP leaders tweet, Omar Abdullah said, “Jenab, not to put too fine a point on it but please correct what we failed to do in that case as you are in power in Centre and in the State.”
However, Madhav in response to Omar Abdullah reminding him that his part NC was an alliance partner of the BJP during Vajpayee regime. Abdullah was Minister of State for External Affairs. (UNI)
