Lynyrd Skynyrd biopic in the works

LONDON, June 28:  Former Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle is developing a biopic about the band.
Free Bird, which is named after the group’s 1973 hit, will centre on the 1977 plane crash which cost lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, backup singer Cassie Gaines, and three others their lives.
Artimus, who survived the plane crash, has written the script alongside director Jared Cohn and production is slated to begin later this year, reported Rolling Stones.
“When that plane crashed, we were at the top of the world, man,” Pyle said.
“I mean, we could play with any band – any band, whether it was the Rolling Stones, anyone, and we would hold our own or better. I think of that accident every day and what we might have accomplished if we’d have 10 more years.
“But I’m very proud of the band; I love the music and I love playing it still. I love hearing the stories, every time I play a gig now and meet people. And I know the only reason people know my name is because of Ronnie Van Zant.” (PTI)
