NOWSHERA, Feb 6: General Officer Commanding in Chief Northern Command Lt Gen D S Hooda paid tributes to martyrs of Nowshera battle to mark Nowshera Day.
Nowshera Day, is the tall testimony of supreme sacrifice and passionate love of Indian Army and the locals of the area for their motherland.
In 1947-48, Indian troops and locals fought together to defend Nowshera and threw out Pakistani Tribal raiders from the area. Prominent battles include battle for defence of Nowshera and Qila Darhal and recapture of Jhangar. Ever since then the bonding and bonhomie grew stronger between Indian Army and civilians. Nowshera Day is special as it is the celebration of those strong relations.
A number of connect and care and educate and empower events were organised as built up to the grand finale in last month. On February 6, 2016, the series of these events culminated into a grand and solemn memorial service to commemorate 68th Nowshera Day.
The events were graced by Lt Gen DS Hooda, Army Commander, Northern Comm-and and Rashmi Hooda, Regional President AWWA Northern Command along with large number of Military and civil dignitaries.
The Army Commander laid wreath at Naik Jadhunath Singh memorial followed by visit to Bal Ashram where Army Commander, Northern Comm-and and Rashmi Hooda interacted with children. The visit to Bal Ashram was followed by a colorful impressive variety entertainment program presented by enthusiastic students. The Army Commander, AWWA president felicitated Veer Naris and families of defenders of Qila Darhal and meritorious students. The grand event was witnessed by a large number of locals.
Army Commander recalled the valiant contributions of martyrs and locals who played important role in defending Nowshera. He called upon everyone to actively participate in nation building.
