Lost Legacy

Sir,
This has reference to the Sunday Magazine article ‘Lost Legacy’ DE Nov 18, 2018.
One wonders why the Government is not taking a well planned initiative to restore the historic Jastrotia fort to its pristine glory. The fort is not merely a building of bricks and stones but a precious heritage with which are attached the sentiments of this region.
There is need to restore this building to its original grandeur as it can attract tourists throughout the country, and at the same time can provide employment opportunities to thousands of people living in the surrounding of this fort. It would not be out of context to mention here that the forts in Rajasthan have become a flourishing tourism industry. Rather they have become the backbone of Rajasthan economy. But that is not the case with J&K State. Most of the forts are crumbling, and those existing are not being renovated periodically. An excellent example is Mubarak Mandi which is still in a state of repair.
