JAMMU, Dec 17: Former Legislative Assembly Speaker and sitting National Conference MLA Mohammad Akbar Lone today voiced concern over health of Jammu and Kashmir Bank saying its many loans have turned into Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) and also charged the Bank management with making backdoor appointments of ruling PDP workers selectively.
Lone, who was also the Higher Education Ministers in previous National Conference-Congress Government, said it was high time to get “factual financial position” of Jammu and Kashmir evaluated through an independent agency as large number of people have invested their crores of rupees in the bank, which should be secure.
Lone said he has reports that financial position of Jammu and Kashmir Bank, which was an institution of the State, was not good and number of bank’s loan cases have turned into NPAs.
Calling for transparent recruitment policy, Lone said a number of PDP workers have been recruited in the bank through backdoor at the cost of genuine and deserving candidates, which was a wrong practice.
Lone said he has also submitted a question in budget session of the Assembly seeking complete details of the persons appointed in Jammu and Kashmir, which would prove that his apprehensions were genuine.
“I will also raise the issue during the budget session,” he added.
