Lone rules out pre-poll alliance

SRINAGAR, Dec 21: People’s Conference (PC) chairman, Sajjad Lone, today said that his party will have no pre-poll alliance with any political party in the forthcoming Assembly elections and contest at all the 87 Assembly seats.
Sajjad said this while addressing a press conference here on the occasion of former PDP legislator Abid Ansari’s joining the party. He said the party will not go for any pre-poll alliance with any political party whether regional or national. “Wait for days to come, people will be joining this movement who are new to the politics and those who are already in the politics. PC will contest the elections from all 87 seats,” he said.

Demanding early elections in the State, Lone said that it is good for the people to have their elected representatives as soon as possible without any delay. “We demand that early elections should be held as early as in the month of February but why National Conference leader Omar Abdullah is asking for the elections when they boycotted the previous Municipal and Panchayat elections by linking it with Article 35-A case”, he asked.
The PC chairman asked former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to clear his stand on elections. “There are two things, either Omar Abdullah was lying that time or he is lying now. Now, he should come clear on whether he was lying at that time when he was linking elections with Article 35A issue or he is lying now. We are of the view that elections should be held in February. It is better that Government should be made as soon as possible. Let Omar Abdullah decide when he was lying so that people will know what their stand is on such issue”, he said.
Commenting on NC president, Dr Farooq Abdullah’s autonomy statement, Sajad asked what happened to the previous resolution when NC had a majority in the Assembly. “Farooq Abdullah should speak now, we will support the resolution but there has to be a White Paper on certain things including who eroded the previous resolution, who was behind that, what happened in the elections that took place in 1987, 1996 and 2002 and on the anti-corruption too. What was the source of income of every politician in past and how much property they have now?,” he asked.
Sajjad said that whatever has happened was done by them (NC) and now they are claiming everything on the earth.
When asked about the killing of civilians in Pulwama, Lone said that it is better to call off the operations by the security forces when there is possibility of any civilian killing.
“Forget politics, they are amongst us. Whenever there is any operation of the security forces, they should see the cost and benefit in it. As I earlier said also, if you have to kill seven civilians for three militants, then you have to ask questions or if there is a 14 year old militant which is considered as minor and you know that then call off the operation because a minor boy does not know what he is holding in his hands. Our stand is clear on that,” he said
Senior People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and former MLA Zadibal Abid Ansari today formally joined Peoples Conference (PC) in Srinagar.
Peoples Conference chief Sajjad Gani Lone, welcomed Ansari to his party during a press conference held at Church Lane here.
Speaking on the occasion, Ansari said it is homecoming for him as he was associated with the party earlier also. “I am glad today that I am joining the party whose foundation was laid by my brother Iftiqar Hussain Ansari, Abdul Gani Lone and Shameem Ahmad Shameem. I was associated with this party earlier also as they used to teach me and today I formally joined this party,” he said
When asked about what led him to join the PC, Ansari said he is coming back home and joining his family members. “As I already said that this was my own party and I am coming home now. I am joining back with my family members,” he said
When asked about the reason for leaving PDP, Ansari said the dictatorship and dynasty rule in the party and non fulfilment of the promises led him to leave the party. “Dynasty rule, corruption and dictatorship were reasons that I left the party. As I said in the Assembly also that things are not going good in the party but nobody agreed with me. I did not ask for any Ministry. I always asked that the promises that were made with me for my constituency should be fulfilled,” he said
Ansari said there were many promises made but nothing was fulfilled. “Late Mufti Sayeed promised me that middle pass youth of my constituency would be adjusted but nothing happened. It was said that a separate authority will be made for the Khushalsar, Gilsar and Anchar lakes but that was also not made. They said artisan loan will be waived off, that also did not happen. There were several issues that were ignored. Now the party is disorienting and the reason is dictatorship,” he said
Earlier, Aabid Ansari’s nephew Imran Raza Ansari joined the PC. Both were earlier associated with PDP.
