Lok Adalats, awareness camp held

JAMMU, Sept 28: Lok Adalats and awareness camp were held today.
A Lok Adalat was held today at the District Court Complex under the chairmanship of Chairman, District Legal Services Authority Jammu Vinod Chatterjee Koul. Two benches were established to conduct the proceedings. The first bench comprising Principal District and Sessions Judge, Vinod Chatterjee Koul and Additional District and Sessions Judge (MACT) Jatinder Singh Jamwal, settled 7 cases out of 43 cases. An amount of Rs 33.35 lakh was awarded as compensation. The second bench comprising Additional District Judge (Bank Cases) Bala Jyoti, and City Judge, Surinder Singh, settled 8 post litigation and 13 pre litigation cases of the 22 cases taken up by it. An amount of Rs 17.83 crore was also recovered.
A Lok Adalat was held today in the premises of District Court Complex Kathua, under the chairmanship of Mohammad Akram Chowdhary, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Principal District and Sessions Judge) Kathua. To settle cases, the bench comprised of Sikander Azam Choudhary, Additional District and Sessions Judge Kathua and Sunil Sangra, Special Mobile (J) Magistrate Kathua was constituted. Three total cases, including two bank cases and one MACT case were disposed off. An award of Rs 23,99,000 was also passed in favour of the petitioners.
Meanwhile Tehsil Legal Services Committee organised legal awareness camp at District Jail Jammu and Central Jail Kot Bhalwal for interacting with inmates and prisoners and to listen their problems. The organisers apprised the participants of their rights and protections. The camp was attended and organised by Anita Khosa from TLSC, Advocate Anita Tiku, Advocate Vijay Laxmi, Bhajan Singh, PLV, Ankush Pandita, PLV, SSP Central Jail Kot Bhalwal and SP District Jail Jammu.
