Locals protest against liquor smuggling after drunken youth dies

UDHAMPUR, May 18: Following death of a person, who fell in a nallah near Lander due to his drunken condition, locals held a strong protest demonstration against sale of illicit liquor in the area.
According to the police reports, a lineman working in Lander and identified as Hoshiar Singh (24), son of Chain Singh of Uchchha Nallah Lander, was in drunken condition when he fell in nallah, while coming to home late last night.
He was found lying in an injured condition and the locals took him to PHC Panchari, where doctors referred him to DH Udhampur and then to GMC Hospital Jammu where he succumbed to his injuries this evening.
Following the incident, locals of Lander took to streets and held a strong protest against the smuggling of liquor in the area from Chenani side and its illegal sale in the market, which has resulted into such mishaps.
The protesting people were demanding stern action against the liquor smugglers and their supporters.
