JAMMU, Sept 19: Former Deputy Chief Minister and MLA Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta said that local bodies are “purest” form of democracy.
While addressing a gathering at Gangyal area in connection with ULB election campaign, Gupta said, “Municipal corporation play very important role in development of country. Every municipal corporation adopts a ‘municipal growth element’ as a part of its comprehensive plan. The fundamentals of development are very complex and difficult to create”.
He said, “Economic growth is one of these fundamentals but not most important one. Social and political traditions are more important and the elements behind those traditions are democracy, freedom, equality, Justice, human rights, and other values of modem humanity. Without these elements it becomes almost impossible to create atmosphere of socio economic progress”.
Gupta further said the municipal institutions are a part of local self- Government. They have been playing a significant role in civil as well as political civilization. There is a constant rise and growth of urban areas. Jammu continues its growth in size and population constantly. The increase in density has given rise to important problem of governing urban area. He said that the solution requires sound financial resources as well as efficient Government organization.
Gupta said in the forthcoming elections again the Mayor would be from BJP only as the people know who actually has worked and is working for the overall development of the three regions of the State. He appealed to all the voters of Jammu to vote and support BJP candidates from all the wards.
