LMD imposes Rs 50500 penalty on traders

SAMBA, Apr 15: The Legal Metrology Department Samba has imposed Rs 50,500 penalty on the erring traders including sanitary shops in various areas of the district during current month.
As per a handout issued by the Department here, today the business establishments on which the penalty was imposed included Stationery shops, Hardware store, Provisional stores, Restaurant, Sweet Shops, Karayana shops, for violation of various provisions of J&K Standard of weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011 and other prevailing Legal Metrology and Weights and Measures Laws. Stationery shops were also booked for selling the note books containing lesser number of pages as marked on the notebooks
It said a team of the Legal Metrology Department Samba headed by the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Samba, Ajay Kumar Verma and Inspector Narinder Makhnotra conducted intensive checking of various business establishments at Samba, Vijaypur, Bari Brahmna, and adjoining areas during the current month. Various traders dealing with different trades especially Stationery shops, Hardware store, Restaurant, Confectionary, Karayana shops, provisional stores etc. were inspected to ascertain whether they comply with various provisions of J&K Standard of Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011(Amended) and Packages Commodities Rules. During inspection, Rs 50500 penalty was imposed on the erring traders.
On the assurance of the traders to rectify the discrepancies on the products as per applicable rules and not to repeat the same fault in future, all the challans were compounded by the Department and penalty of Rs 50500 was imposed on them.
