LMD imposes Rs 41,400 penalty on defaulters

SAMBA Feb 23: A team of the Legal Metrology Department Samba led by the Assistant controller, Ajay Kumar  Verma and Inspector Narinder Makhnotra conducted intensive checking of business establishments like Hardware store, Sweet Shops, Karayana shops, provisional stores, jewellers, bartan shops and industrial units at Samba, Sadoh, Blouni,  Sarore Adda , Ramgarh, Vijaypur, Bari Brahmna and adjoining areas.
During checking 27 challans were booked and various traders dealing with floor cleaner, bathroom fittings, desi ghee and other items were fined for violations of J&K Standard of Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011(Amended) and   Packages Commodities rules as their products were without mandatory declarations. On the assurance of the traders to rectify the discrepancies on the products as per Legal Metrology Packages Commodities Rules 2011 and not to repeat the same fault in future all the challans were compounded by the Department and  penalty of Rs 41400 was imposed on them.
Besides this, the Department directed all the traders to use only those weights and measures and weighing and measuring instruments for business transactions which have been duly verified and authenticated by the Legal Metrology Department and ensure that  maximum retail price (MRP), date of packing (PKD), Net contents and complete address of the manufacturer/packer  and customer care number  have been declared on the commodities to be sold in packaged form.
