LMD books Departmental Store for overcharging, seizes deceptive packages

JAMMU, Sept 29: Legal Metrology Department (LMD) has booked a Departmental Store and seized deceptive packages.
As per official spokesman, acting on the complaint of consumer for being overcharged on the pretext of GST by M/s Vermani Departmental Store, Channi Himmat, team of officers of LMD today conducted extensive checking of the store.
According to complaint, he purchased rusk packet and Nestle Cerelac marked with MRP of Rs 60 and Rs 196 respectively but he was issued invoice bill no 49803 wherein he was billed Rs 65 and Rs 199, overcharged by Rs 5 and Rs 3 on the items.
The management of the store could not give satisfactory reply to the complaint and being an aware consumer the applicant filed a complaint to protect his rights.
The team inspected the said store and found that the store was charging new MRP on old products and a case of overcharging was registered against the owner. The team also found number of other deceptive items which were displayed for sale without adhering mandatory declaration required for the information of the consumers. All such items were seized and notice issued for production of bills to ascertain the exact rates of such items.
