JAMMU, Mar 26: The Enforcement Wing of Legal Metrology Samba has registered a case against Ambuja Cement Ltd, a part of a global conglomerate Holeim and one of India’s leading cement manufacturers, for lapses in mention of statutory declarations mandatory under Legal Metrology Act/rules.
Enforcement Inspector of Legal Metrology, while inspecting the company’s authorized dealers at Samba and Vijaypur, detected that mandatory declarations like M. R. P, packing date, consumer helpline number, complete address of manufacturer with PIN etc were not prominent and legible on 50 kg cement bags as required under packaged commodity rules.
As , such omissions cannot be expected and accepted from such a multinational brand, all the deceptive cement bags were detained and legal action was initiated by serving show-cause notice to the firm.
Meanwhile, in a communique to the notice, the company through its technical head has accepted the contravention of the provisions of the Act/rules and requested for compounding of the case at departmental level.
