UDHAMPUR, Jan 23: Locals of village Lehnu, ward number 6 in Block Tikri, today protested against delaying elections of their Panchayat halqa.
The protesting villagers assembled near BDO office Tikri and raised slogans against the District administration for delaying Panchayat election in ward number 6 of village Lehnu.
According to Yeshpaul Sharma, Sarpanch Tikri, this ward was wrongly declared reserved for STs even as there is no ST population in this ward. There are total 49 families, including nine of SC and 123 of other castes, totaling 132, he added.
When the locals approached to BDO Tikri and District Panchayat Election Officer Udhampur on November 2, 2018 for the rectification to general category as per the population, the elections were postponed but till no necessary action was taken till date. Elections of the Tikri block, totaling 10 Panchayats of 76 wards, were held during the second phase on November 20, 2018.
The protesting villagers appealed the Governor Satya Pal Malik to order conduct of Panchayat elections in this ward.
Those who addressed the gathering, included Ex Sarpanch Kaka Ram, Panch Surinder Kumar, Chaman Lal Panch, Pooja Devi Panch, Mohd. Ramzan, Mohd Sadiq, Rattan Lal, Balwan Singh, Abdul Rashid and others.
