Legislature pays tributes to former Governor, Legislators

SRINAGAR, June 17: Both the Houses of State Legislature today paid rich tributes to the former J&K Governor, Parliamentarian and Legislators, who passed away during recent months.
In the Legislative Assembly, Speaker, Kavinder Gupta moved the Obituary Reference and paid homage to former Governor Girish Chander Saxena, ex-Speaker Ali Mohammad Naik, ex-MLA Shanti Devi, ex-MP Syed Nizam-ud-Din Shah, ex-Minister Sardar Rangil Singh and ex-MLA Rishi Kumar Koushal.
He said that former Governor contributed tremendously in bringing normalcy in the State, adding former Legislators played their role for the development of the State and upliftment of down-trodden sections of the society.
Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh also paid glowing tributes to the former Governor Girish Chandra Saxena and the legislators who passed away recently.
While paying tributes to the former Governor Girish Chandra Saxena, the Deputy Chief Minister said that he took over at a critical time when the State was facing tremendous challenges and he played a crucial role in getting it out of chaotic conditions. He said that his role in restoring normalcy in the State is historical and needs to be appreciated by everybody.
Mohammad Shafi, G.M. Saroori, M Y Tarigami, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, Sat Paul Sharma, Bashir Ahmed Dar and Er Abdul Rashid Sheikh also paid rich tributes to the late leaders and recalled their valuable contribution to the society.
Later, the House adopted the Obituary Reference and observed 2-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
In the Legislative Council, Chairman Haji Anayat Ali moved Obituary Reference paying glowing tributes to the former Governor, former Member Parliament and Legislators who have passed away during the period from last session. He said that selfless services of these personalities will be remembered for forever.
While paying tributes to the deceased personalities, Minister for Public Works and Leader of the Upper House Naeem Akhtar said that selfless leaders and dedicated legislators would take the State to the new heights of development and prosperity. He further said that despite numerous challenges, these leaders worked with dedication and never allowed wavering off their credibility and trust entrusted by people upon them.
He also condemned the civilian killings in Kashmir and expressed condolences to the families of cops and civilians killed in border shelling. He said that legislators and politicians should rise above party politics and try to restore the normalcy across the State at all levels.
Later, Sajjad Ahmad Kitchloo, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Ramesh Arora, Yasir Reshi, Showkat Hussain Ganaie, Saif-Ud-Din Bhat, Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, Ashok Khajuria, Naresh Kumar Gupta, Surrinder Choudhary, Ajatshatru Singh, Vibodh Gupta, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, Dr Shahnaz Ganai, Pradeep Sharma, Shamlal Bhagat, Sofi Yusuf, Yashpal Sharma, Vikram Randhawa, Sardar Charanjeet Singh, Surrinder Mohan Ambardar, Muhammad Khursheed Alam and  Girdari Lal Raina also paid tributes to the former Governor, former legislators, and former MPs.
