Legislators, various delegations, CEO SMVDSB, VCs call on Governor

Jammu, Nov 16: Priya Sethi, former Minister, met Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Sethi apprised Governor about a range of issues relating to the development of the State in the arena of tourism, culture, education and proactive role required to be played by the Government for ensuring women empowerment.
Governor and Sethi discussed the crucial importance of electing representatives to Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies for strengthening democratic institutions at grass root level.
Asiea Naqash, MLA Hazratbal also met Governor and briefed him about the ongoing schemes in her Constituency and projected certain demands for its balanced development.
Governor urged Naqash to continue her efforts for promoting a peaceful environment in her area and work zealously for advancing the interests of youth by providing them adequate opportunities in the arenas of sports and extracurricular activities.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) led by its President Gulchain Singh Charak met Governor and apprised him about the history, objectives and ongoing programmes of the Sabha and presented a copy of DSS’s resolutions passed on the 114th Annual General Council meeting of the Sabha.
The Members of the delegation shared with Governor their view points about the development of the State and urged Governor to look into issues of migrants staying illegally in the State, forced migrations from border areas of the Jammu region due to frequent cross-border firing, conducting special recruitment drives for youth in the border areas; opening road in front of Civil Secretariat Jammu for public movement; transparency and accountability in Government functioning; transparency in recruitment drives; need for Sainik Welfare Department to be looked after separately by an Advisor; issues of daily wagers, etc.
The delegation urged for synergizing efforts to revive Dogra culture and preservation of its rich heritage including launching a Duggar Channel by Door Darshan Kendra Jammu; revival of Dogra festival, restoration of Mubarak Mandi and shifting of archives and files pertaining to Dogra Rule to the Mubarak Mandi complex.
The delegation also urged for finding a permanent and peaceful solution to J&K problem and suggested separate Regional Autonomous Councils for all the three regions of the State to ensure equitable development.
Governor assured the delegation appropriate consideration of their demands.
Simrandeep Singh, CEO, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) also met Governor and informed him about the up to-date progress of the Board’s various flagship projects in Katra and the Shrine area.
Governor advised CEO to ensure time-bound completion of all works and ensure satisfactory facilities for all pilgrims.
Prof. Javed Musarrat, Vice Chancellor Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), apprised Governor about BGSBU’s ongoing academic programmes, available infrastructure, faculty position and the financial requirements to meet the future growth of the University.
Governor emphasized ensuring best possible facilities to students in sports and other extra-curricular activities besides quality teaching and learning for the holistic development of the youth.
Prof. Mushtaq A. Siddiqi, Vice Chancellor Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora informed Governor about the ongoing academic programmes and initiatives taken to enhance the institution’s standing.
Various delegations also met Governor and apprised him of their issues.
Delegation of the Apprentices of Accounts Clerk Course, Finance Department appealed to the Governor for granting full pay to them during their ongoing apprenticeship training course as per the 7th Pay Commission w.e.f 1-1-2018.
Delegation of All Jammu and Kashmir Unemployed Tourism Professionals Association/ Tourism Trainees requested Governor to launch Rehber-I-Sayahat scheme for letting qualified tourism professionals join Government tourism sector.
Delegation of the United National Contractors Association requested Governor to direct the authorities to expedite release of funds amounting to Rs. 2698.61 lakh for clearance of works done by the Contractors of the Estate Division, Srinagar, to restore the assets damaged due to September 2014 floods, belonging to the Estates Department Srinagar, and other Works.
Delegation from Keran of Distt Kupwara demanded Govt. Degree College for Keran, a Public School with CBSE curriculum; special recruitment drives for unemployed youth of Keran; relaxation in academic qualifications for Government jobs and improvement in road connectivity in the area.
Governor assured all the delegations appropriate consideration of their demands.
