Legislators have key role in effective implementation of developmental initiatives: Kohli

RAMBAN, Dec 18: Stressing on the role of legislators as of paramount importance in formulation and implementation of developmental programmes, Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Ghani Kohli today exhorted upon the officers to optimally utilize their experience and expertise to ensure productive use of Government resources for the larger public welfare.
“The legislators, who represent the people, are the one who are well abreast with the developmental needs of every part of their constituency so their involvement can do wonders in transforming socio-economic profile of their areas in particular and the state as a whole,” the Minister maintained.
The Minister, while chairing District Development Board (DDB) review meeting of Ramban, had a detailed appraisal of the progress on implementation of decisions of the last meeting. He also had thorough deliberations on various multi-pronged strategies envisaging further streamlining of working of all the departments.
MLAs Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Vikar Rasool Wani and Neelam Langeh, MLC Sham Lal Bhagat, District Development Commissioner (DDC) Mohammad Aijaz, ADDC Ravinder Sadhu, HoDs of various departments, Chief Engineers besides other district officers attended the meeting.
The Minister directed the officers to be prompt and responsive towards people’s needs and requirements and step up their efforts in effective implementation of development programmes. He further asked the officers for regular field visits and inspection of their respective areas to effectively monitor the works being done to facilitate the people with enhanced basic amenities. He also appealed the public to extend their cooperation for better outcome of various government schemes meant for their welfare and empowerment.
It was informed in the meeting that most of the decisions of DDB have been implemented so far while the rest are also being followed up strictly by the departments.
The Minister stressed the need for encouraging self employment ventures like establishing fish ponds, poultry farms and dairy farms in view of their potential and scope in the district. He asked the officers to identify the feasible locations for starting such works in proper consultation with the local people.
The Chairman dismayed over poor performance on several DDB decisions and directed the officers for taking up the matter with their higher ups for necessary follow up.
While deliberating on maintenance of roads as raised by legislators, the Minister stressed upon the concerned for utilizing all the available funds from maintenance head so that people may not suffer during winter season. He further asked them to expedite the works on all ongoing PMGSY roads.
Meanwhile, the legislators raised several issues of their respective constituencies like land compensation, shortage of staff in schools, speedy completion of works of roads and buildings, expansion of power and water supply schemes to uncovered habitations, development of infrastructure at tourist sites, clearance of pending IAY liabilities, rehabilitation of flood affected people at Butas, availability of timber and fire wood etc.
