JAMMU, Mar 17: Legal Metrology today imposed penalty of Rs 20, 000 for short weighment of sweets on Bikaner Sweets.
Acting on the complaint of consumers highlighting the deceptive practices of delivering less sweets by Bikanaer Sweet shops at different locations in city area, officers of Legal Metrology department became dummy consumers to ascertain the facts of the complaints and found the complaint as genuine.
According to Manoj Prabhakar, Deputy Controller, LMD, the chain of sweets shops ws indulging in the practice to overcharge the consumers by selling sweets along with the weight of the box thereby giving sweets less by 60 g against 1 kg .
The prices of sweets were too charged exorbitantly and trader was asked to furnish the breakup of prices of all the sweets. The department has also asked president, Halwai Association to adhere to get prices of sweets items being verified from Director FCS& CA before being issued, failing which the rate list will be treated as null and void.
