JAMMU, Nov 30: The Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS), University of Jammu (JU) today organized a lecture by Air Vice Marshall (retd) Kapil Kak on “Understanding Kashmir’s Multiple Narratives” in the Conventional Hall of the Business School.
Professor RD Sharma, Vice Chancellor of JU, chaired the session. On this occasion, AVM Kapil Kak spoke at length delving upon various dimensions relating to the Kashmir issue. He started the lecture with an analysis of the conflict in Kashmir and violence it unleashed on its population.
Kak was forthright in stating that one would have to walk to Kashmir’s ground zero to understand the mindset of people. Anyone with an open mind clearly notices a deep sense of alienation. For facing the challenges, Kak stressed the need for integrating military and political outreach.
Addressing the external dimension related to Kashmir problem, he stated that status quo serves Pakistan’s interests, not India’s. Kak concluded the lecture by offering concrete suggestions to address the grievances of the people of the State.
Giving his presidential remarks, Professor RD Sharma highlighted the complexities surrounding the Kashmir problem and how difficult it is to resolve the conflict due to these complexities. While he brought to the notice of the gathering how Kashmir has become battle ground for four wars between India and Pakistan, he however felt that the multiple fault lines in its internal domain have acquired more primacy in recent period.
Earlier, the Director of the Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS), Dr Nagendra Rao in his welcome speech emphasized the importance of strategic studies as India is going to emerge as third largest economy in the world by 2050.
Dr Suneel Kumar, Assistant Professor of the DSRS proposed the vote of the thanks.
