Karvan-e-Aman bus leave to cross over to PoK

SRINAGAR: The Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) left here on Monday to cross over to other side of the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector, despite ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops on January 12, official sources said.
The weekly peace bus left Bemina, Srinagar, this morning for Kaman post, the last Indian military post on this side of the LoC, in Uri sector in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, sources said.
However, the number of travelers in the bus was not immediately known, they added. They said the bus has since reached Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC), Uri, where more people will board it before crossing to other side.
The exact number of travelers from both sides would be known only in the afternoon, the sources said.
The bus introduced on April 7, 2005 has helped thousands of families, divided in 1947 due to partition, to meet each other after India and Pakistan took this Confidence Building Measures (CBM).
However, only state subjects from both sides of the LoC are eligible to travel in the bus after their names are cleared by the intelligence agencies from both the countries.
