This has reference to the news item ‘Govt committed to welfare of marginalized sections’ DE Jan 9, 2018.
The decision of the Government to bring unorganised sector in the State under the ambit of ‘Muhafiz’ a welfare initiative is more than welcome. At a time when prices of essential items and medicines is sky rocketting, it is impervative that unorganised sector gets some sort of Government protection. While Life Insurance Schemes are launched for gazetted services in the State, nothing substantial is done for the unorganised sector. These people generally have to fend for themselves. As they are not covered under any social welfare or social security scheme they have to live insecure and miserable lives.
By bringing them under this scheme, the Government has underlined its priorities and deserves kudos for taking this welfare measure. Now, it may be mentioned here that launching any scheme quite easy but its implementation is quite a herculean task. The Government must direct the authorities for strict implementation, otherwise it will be a cruel joke with the poor masses.
