Landslides disrupt traffic on NH

JAMMU, July 13: Landslides and shooting stones disrupted movement of traffic on Jammu- Srinagar National Highway today.
Reports said that due to rain in Ramban and parts of Udhampur during morning hours today, the land slides took place at Kheri between Udhampur and Chenani and also at Panthial, Battery Chashma and Digdol area of Ramban district.
The Highway near Udhampur remained blocked for about an hour and was cleared at around 12 noon while in Ramban area, shooting stones at three places caused disruption in the movement of normal vehicular traffic and also Shri Amarnath Yatra convoy.
A pilgrim hailing from Madhya Pradesh was also injured as a stone hit his leg at Battery Chashma. He was provided first aid at Ramban hospital. The incident took place when the pilgrim came out of the vehicle and was standing in the open to observe slow movement of vehicles.
An official spokesman said that as the rain stopped during noon in Ramban area, the movement of vehicles resumed smoothly. The disruption was there in the troubled area for few hours and the machines were clearing the road and then again shooting stones were creating blockade and this went on for several hours. The Yatra vehicles were also allowed to move in small groups at Panthial, Battery Chashma and Digdol slide zones for safety reasons.
Meanwhile, Ramnagar- Basantgarh road is still blocked due to heavy land slides at Chhatreri. Ramnagar-Ghordi and Dalsar roads have also been blocked due to fresh land- slides.
