Land ordinance will not be repromulgated tomorrow; old law stands: Modi

NEW DELHI : Clearing all doubts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today categorically announced the revival of the 2013 Land Acquisition Law, saying an ordinance that his government had brought in to enforce an amended law will not be repromulgated on August 31, the day it was expiring.
”We will allow it to lapse,” Mr Modi said in his Mann Ki Baat Programme on AIR this morning, adding that the 13 Acts that were to be brought in the ambit of 2013 law to ensure increased benefit to farmers had been added to it through an order.       ”These points come into force from today,” he said.   He said the new law had been brought in at behest of states, but some people created a lost of misgivings about it to mislead the farmers.
Mr Modi said his Government would, however, not give an opportunity to such people to mislead the farmers anymore.      He said the government has an opened mind on any suggestions coming from the farmers regarding the law.
The Prime Minister has also expressed pain over the recent Gujarat violence during the agitation by the Patel community over their demand for quota, saying the events had caused concern to all.
”That this should happen in the land of Sardar Patel and Gandhiji has schocked all,” Mr Modi said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, however, expressed satisfaction over the let up in violence and praised the state Government for controlling the situation in a short time.
Mr Modi used the opportunity to point out that the social security schemes had benefited about 11 crore families and half of the beneficiaries were women.  He also expressed happiness that under the ‘Jan Dhan Yojna’ more than 17.74 crore bank accounts have been opened.
Pointing out that Rs 22000 crore had been deposited by the poor in these bank accounts in a short time, he remarked, ”here I see the richness of the poor.”
The Prime Minister also spoke about his meeting with Sufi scholars this week and said he had got a new perspective about Islam after listening to them and would like them to take the true message of Islam to all.
