RAMBAN, Oct 5: Public resentment is brewing against the encroachment of Chanderkot Power House to Shanti Kashtigarh road being constructed under PMGSY by the land mafia in the area Rajgarh area of Ramban district who has grabbed a portion of the land by constructing shops over it.
According to sources, the land grabbers, being the political leaders and some Government officials wielding influence in administration issue threats to the people as well as officials raising their voice against the encroachments of the road.
The land mafia has let lose a reign of terror to such an extent that the people who raise their voice against the same are threatened of dire consequences. The mafia have taken such a liberty that they are even ignoring the directives of the authorities and encroached the entry point of the Primary Health Centre Rajgarh also making it difficult for the patients and staff to find an entry into the Hospital.
The road is being constructed under the PMGSY Scheme and despite the repeated notices served by Executive Engineer, PMGSY Ramban to  Mohammed Shafi and Javed Ahmed who have encroached a portion of the land by raising illegal structures over it, the concerned persons have failed to restore the encroached land to the department.
According to Mohammed Shafi a social activist of the area, the people have even taken the compensation of the land way back and by mutating the revenue records they have sold it to the land mafia later who constructed the structures over their illegally.
Shafi said when he and other social activists raised the voice against the same they were also threatened by the mafia group among whom one is ex-sarpanch and a NC leader while one is a Revenue officer and another a PHE official.
The Tehsildar Rajgarh who took the cognizance of the matter has also ordered  registration of FIR against Mohammed Shafi and Javed Ahmed but Ramban Police has failed to register the FIR against them till date. The Tehsildar through his letter number TRG/N/2017-18/70 dated 26-09-2017 has again urged the SSP Ramban stating therein that due to lack of coordination by local police, the Revenue Department is unable to restore the land and this has led to the law and order situation in the area.
He has urged the SSP to look into the matter and book the land mafia under the law. The Tehsildar in his letter has mentioned that Mohammed Shafi is trying to intimidate his office through his agents and there is a security threat to him and his staff.
The Tehsildar besides recommending registration of FIR has also demanded security for the office.
When contacted Tehsildar Rajgarh said that the land mafia has let lose a reign of terror in the area and the Revenue Department has taken a strong cognizance of the matter. He said seeking the assistance of the Police the Revenue Department will demarcate the land of the PMGSY road tomorrow and remove the illegal structures also.
