NEW DELHI, Aug 11: Jammu & Kashmir Minister for Forest & Environment, Chaudhary Lal Singh has lauded the clearance of the construction of Shahpur-Kandi Dam and Ujh Multipurpose project, and congratulated Union Minister  Dr Jitendra Singh for his sustained continuous efforts to accomplish this.
Lal Singh called on Dr Jitendra Singh today and held over one hour meeting to discuss different issues related to the two projects as well as the current political scenario in the State. He also informed about the State cabinet decision to ratify the two projects which had been vigorously pursued by Dr Jitendra Singh at the level of Central Government.
According to Lal Singh, while the Shahpur-Kandi Dam will result in providing irrigation to over 80,000 acres of land, the Ujh Multipurpose project will be a game changer for the areas covered mainly under Kathua district, and also to an extent under Samba and Jammu districts.
Dr Jitendra Singh, while congratulating the people of Kathua district for having got these two projects through the intervention of Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), said, in the last three years most of the roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and Central Roads Fund (CRF) have been got cleared for district Kathua. In addition, he said, the sanction of Medical College and Engineering College has given it an edge over other districts. Not only this, he said, the North-India’s first-ever National Bio-tech Park is also coming up at Gaati near Kathua and the inter-State bridge at Keedhiyan-Gadhiyal is in itself a landmark.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, the Shahpur-Kandi Dam project had got delayed for the last over three decades and a series of meetings convened by the Union Government and the representatives of the State have finally succeeded in breaking the logjam.
With the Union Government offering full patronage and support to the development activities in the State, Dr Jitendra Singh appealed to the local administration to make arrangements for adequate supply of water and uninterrupted power supply, particularly in the summer zone areas of Kathua, Jammu & Udhampur.
Lal Singh also informed Dr Jitendra Singh about the various achievements of his Ministry. He said, till now, he had completed plantation of over 50 lakh plants and the work on the first-ever Jambu Zoo was in fast progress.
