LAHDC Leh to devise action plan for Sowa-Rigpa System

LEH, Feb 17: To formulate an action policy plan for overall development of Sowa Rigpa Amchi System in Ladakh, a meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Chairman & Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal in presence of Executive Councilor for Health Tsering Sandup and senior Amchi including Dr Padma Gurmet, Officer NRIS Leh, Chief Amchi SNM Hospital Leh Tsering Phuntsog and other senior and young Amchies of Ladakh.
Addressing the meeting, CEC said that traditional Amchi system of Himalayan region is an invaluable treasure for Ladakh and Hill Council is committed for development of this ancient system in organized way for which an inclusive action policy will be formulated. He urged upon the Leh based institutes and Amchies to give their feedbacks and suggestions in devising this action plan so that Council could have a clear vision to develop this sector in planned way. He said that Hill Council Leh is also keen to add Sowa-Rigpa sector under the portfolio of an Executive Councilor LAHDC, Leh, in days to come.
Meeting, while discussing various issues of Leh based institutes and Amchies, decided to pursue different genuine demands with concerned ministry at GoI level and with Governor J&K. These demands include creation of 24 posts of Amchi and Pharmacist in Leh district, relaxation in the amendment of J&K Ayurvedic, Unani, Sowa-Rigpa (Amchi) System of Medicine Act 1959 and 2017, enhancement in the Stipend of Amchies, upgradation of Chief Amchi post at the level of CMO and creation of 22 Medical Officers posts to regulate Sowa-Rigpa system in the Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh State. The meeting also discussed future requirements of the education and research institutes like NRIS Leh, CIBS, Choglamsar Leh and SNM Hospital for strengthening of Sowa-Rigpa system in Ladakh.
Dr Padma Gurmet, Officer NRIS Leh, apprised the meeting that the degree holders in Sowa Rigpa Amchi System from four institutes of India including CIBS Choglamsar Leh, Men-Tsee-Khang College Dharamshala, Central University of Tibetan Studies, Saranath Varanasi and Chagpori Tibetan Medical Institute, Darjeeling are also recognized for registration, practice and eligible for posts equivalent to Ayurvedic and Unani doctors under NHM.
The meeting decided to sit monthly under the chairmanship of EC for Health to devise the action policy plan.
