‘Ladli Beti’ yet to take off in J&K, no money spend out of Rs 2.50 cr sanctioned

SRINAGAR : The much talked about welfare scheme, ‘Ladli Beti’, which was projected to drastically curb the alarming decline in child sex ratio in the state has ironically remained a non-starter as not even a single penny has been utilised from the allocated Rs 2.50 crore during the last one year in Jammu and Kashmir.
Minister for Social Welfare Department Sajad Ghani Lone, in a written reply to a question by MLC Ali Muhammad, said an amount of Rs 2.50 crore was allotted to the department for utilisation in six districts identified under the scheme.
“Rs 13.99 lakh was allotted to the department for south Kashmir district of Anantnag while an amount of Rs 98.73 lakh was allotted for Pulwama and Rs 19.13 lakh for central Kashmir district of Budgam,” the reply said. It said Rs 86.494 lakh was allotted for Kathua, Rs 26.15 lakh for Jammu and Rs 14.51 lakh for Samba districts in Jammu region.
However, the reply said the department has not utilised any amount under the scheme in all these six districts.
The reply by the government gives a very grim picture of the situation after the scheme was introduced last year, on the ground.
It was introduced to create strong disposition towards girl child, and curb the alarming decline in the child sex ratio in Jammu and Kashmir. (AGENCIES)
