Ladakhi students protest thrashing of colleague

JAMMU, Jan 3: Ladakhi students in hundreds today held a protest following thrashing of one of the students belonging to Ladakh by a local showroom owner in New Plot area of city outskirts.
According to the reports, some Ladakhi students were sitting in front of a Priknit showroom owned by a man identified as Amit Kumar (39) son of Rajinder Kumar, resident of New Plot, this evening when they engaged in a verbal duel with the showroom owner and thereafter the Ladakhi students thrashed the showroom owner. Meanwhile, some locals came to the rescue of Amit Kumar and caught hold of one of the Ladakhi student who attacked him and then they thrashed him badly while others managed to escape.
The Ladakhi student who was thrashed by the locals was identified as Mohd Mujamin (16) son of Haji Ali, resident of Kargil. In the quarrel, the showroom owner and the Ladakhi student got minor injuries and were taken to Government Hospital, Sarwal, from where both were discharged after providing first aid.
However, later Ladakhi students in hundreds assembled in front of police post Sarwal and staged a protest demanding registration of FIR against showroom owner and also his arrest. A police party from police post Sarwal led by incharge, SI Kalicharan reached the spot but failed to pacify the protesters. Later, senior police officers also rushed to the spot and on their assurance that the guilty will not be spared, the protesting Ladakhi students disperse.
