KVK Reasi organises field day on wheat crop

JAMMU, Apr 17: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organised the field day on wheat crop at organic village Talwara of Reasi district which was attended by large number of farmers/farm women of the area.
The programme was organised under the guidance of Associate Director Extension and Incharge of KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr RK Arora. KVK has laid around 1 hectares area at farmers’ fields under wheat Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs). The programme was initiated by Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr Banarsi Lal with brief introduction of wheat crop. He stressed on the high yielding varieties of wheat. He further said that farmers should save their wheat crop from the diseases and recommended certain disease resistant varieties.
He suggested the control measures of wheat diseases like loose smut and yellow rust of wheat by using the organic methods. He elaborated important diseases of wheat crop and gave their proper control measures specially by using the organic methods. He emphasized on timey irrigation for the wheat crop.
Dr Sanjay Kaushal, scientist, elaborated the technological operations in wheat crop. He emphasized on the use of FYM and vermicompost for the production of organic wheat. He further advised the farmers that they should remove the weeds from their wheat crop for the maximum yield. He further narrated the organic control measures of rodents and termite in the wheat crop.
He further added that the farmers should have proper spacing between plant-to-plant and line-to-line in wheat crop and stressed on line sowing. Dr Kaushal motivated the farmers that they can fetch more prices by growing organic wheat. The farmers asked various quarries which were answered by the scientists in a satisfactorily way.
In this programme Hans Raj an awardee farmer shared his experiences of organic farming with the other farmers. The literature regarding the organic farming was also distributed among the farmers. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal.
