JAMMU, Jan 23: Kissan Union Samba and JKEDA Jammu have expressed their serious concern over the proposed budget share of 4% for agriculture and its allied sectors in the State and demanded 50% budget for agriculture.
Addressing a press conference, leaders of both the associations flayed the State Government for neglecting the farming community. They said that on one hand huge subsidies have been poured in the pocket of industrialists and on the other hand, the agriculture and its allied sectors have been given only 4% share of the budget.
“Moreover, to keep the farmers produce at low price, the Government imports fore coming crops. Government has also approved import of grams and wheat which will further push the farming community in a debt trap”, the speakers said.
The Kissan Union leaders said that the Government is totally adopting anti-peasants policy, as it fixes the MSP lower than the input cost as calculated by its own universities. Furthermore, farmers are forced to sell their produce below MSP due to non-availability of Government’s market facility.
The surgical strike commandoes are also living on agricultural produce, the leaders said, adding, no section can survive by downgrading the peasant community. They said that keeping in view the fact that ‘Agriculture is the life line of the whole human community’, Government should announce 50% budget to agriculture and its allied sectors and wave off all loans of KCC along with interest.
The leaders also stressed for stopping crop insurance immediately. They further demanded that carbon soaking contribution of the peasantry be calculated and paid in the State which is estimated about one lakh crore per annum for whole Indian peasantry.
